We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Adams and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I loved performing – my entire life, I was found on some kind of stage whether it was from dance, cheerleading, music, etc. When I was 18, I discovered the Flow Arts (hula hooping, predominantly), and practiced for years following. Then, I realized I can make money doing this! I bought LED Glow props, fancy costumes, and booked myself at bars and clubs around my college town. I loved it so much that I wanted more opportunities to perform, to bring my creative ideas to life, and create magic on a larger scale. So, I started Fluxion Entertainment!

My goal was to be different – to book our areas top talent, but pair that with creative concepts and truly customizable experiences for my clients so that their events were more immersive, and not just a typical celebration.

Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
I think my overall dedication and drive is what sets me apart from the rest. Ever since my business started, I was working full time as a marketing professional. So from 8am to 5pm I would be working for someone else, and 5:30pm to 10:30pm I would work on my business, then go to sleep and do it all over again the next day. Weekends were great, because I had a full day of working on Fluxion!

But, I would not glamorize that type of work ethic – it truly drained me. My business started in 2019 so from 2019 through about 2020, it was doable to handle both because I was just getting started, and let’s be real – do we ever know what we’re doing when we first start? In 2021, Fluxion blew up, and suddenly I was then working 2 full time jobs. I was not myself. I had no time for anything outside of work. I was constantly traveling to events, trying to answer all phone calls and emails on my 45 minute lunch break each day, my anxiety was through the roof. Owning a business is already not for the faint of heart, and running a business while also working full time is just flat out close to impossible. But, I knew what my end goal was, and that was to be able to run Fluxion full time, knowing I can fully support myself doing what I love.

I am so thankful that today, that dream has come true. Back in October of 2022 was the last day of my full time marketing job so I am fully dedicated to Fluxion now. I worked so hard and truly overcame challenge after challenge for almost 2 years while working towards this goal. I just had to believe in myself, know that what I am creating with Fluxion is truly special, and that people DO love my business and I will only continue to grow from here.

So no, it was not easy… starting a business is never easy! I have not only had a difficult time with time management, but there will always be people on the sidelines waiting for you to fail. I have learned to never give up, drown out the noise no matter how hard that may be, and stay dedicated to what you love. I truly believe that if you love something, you will do anything to make it work, and the universe will align for you if you dedicate yourself. And for every 1 person waiting for you to fail, there are 5 others rooting for your success!

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I live in Rhode Island, and I moved here about a year and a half ago. Unfortunately (as stated in my last answer) I have not had much time to explore. But, I do love Newport – not in the summertime (too busy, no parking!) but on the off season, it is beautiful. Rhode Island has gorgeous beaches and cute towns such as Charlestown, Wickford, and East Greenwich. I usually will take visitors to East Greenwich to grab a bite to eat, Wickford to shop around, and Charlestown for a nice beach! And Allie’s Donuts…iconic. Have to grab one of those.

I live near Roger Williams Park which has a zoo, botanical garden, walking trails, lakes, ect. so I would take visitors there as well – I love the botanical garden especially! Anywhere I go, you can probably find me visiting one! Providence is also a foodie city – lots of yummy eats! I especially love Kow Kow – huge ice cream cones wrapped in waffles with crazy toppings…I have a sweet tooth so this is heaven for me.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My husband has been there through Fluxion Entertainment’s inception. From the start of the idea through building it to what it is now, he has been the person who has helped my business grow immensely. A successful business owner himself, he was always there for any question I had, to code things on my website when I simply couldn’t figure it out, and he is our “in house fabricator” with tons of industrial tools that help create things like our Strolling Table and brand new (almost completed) Champagne Skirt! I am so thankful for his support throughout my journey.
