We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren-Claire Poitevent and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lauren-Claire, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
Work life balance is such a hot topic, especially as an entrepreneur. I used to chase the idea of “work life balance” which is incredible difficult as an entrepreneur, especially in the first few years of the business! In the first few years, I was working non stop and had a constant feeling of guilt because I felt like I “should” be able to have a successful business and have a balance in life. Now, years later, I personally do not believe in this concept. I don’t think you can ever achieve the perfect balance, especially if you have big ambitions. And guess what? That is okay!! I do think it is very important to make sure you are scheduling time in your schedule to take care of yourself whether that be working out, meditating, spending time with your community because you have to take care of your own being in order to be your most successful but it’s okay if you don’t have perfect balance! Life is ever changing and your business will be ever changing. You may feel more balanced in certain seasons of your life than in others and that is absolutely okay. Once I gave myself permission to give up that idea, I felt such a sense of relief. Now, I periodically check in with myself to make sure I am still making time for what feeds my soul and not letting my business take complete control.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
I am a real estate agent here in Denver, Colorado and absolutely LOVE what I do. I recently joined the Live Distinct Team at Liv Sotheby’s International Realty and truly couldn’t imagine working with a stronger, more inspiring team. It has been such a wild and beautiful journey to get here with lots of highs and lows but I wouldn’t change a single thing. Prior to real estate, I owned a beautiful business called Seed. Nourishment where I was a private chef and caterer focusing on helping clients nourish their bodies with healthy, gorgeous and yummy food. I learned more than I could have ever imagined owning and running that business for many years. When I decided to close that chapter, I knew that I wanted to move into a career that still let me serve others and build relationships in an even bigger way. My grandparents and mother own a real estate firm in Texas so I have been around real estate since childhood and have always had such a love for it. I am now a 3rd generation real estate agent and so proud of what I do. It is such an honor to be trusted by my clients and walk by their side throughout the home buying and selling process. It fills my heart with such joy to see their faces when they close on their dream house.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Oh I love this question!! I would definitely start out by taking them to one of my favorite coffee shops, Wash Perk, where I would get a delicious oat milk latte. Then, we would walk around the park (hands down one my favorite things to do!) while sipping on our coffees and chatting up a storm. From there we would probably drive over to Rino for lunch and then up to Lohi for the afternoon. I love taking guests to Avanti and sitting on their top deck in the warmer months. We could have a fun happy hour there and then walk over to Linger to enjoy a yummy dinner. Lastly, what is a day in Denver without finishing off the evening at Little Man Ice Cream??
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Absolutely! So many people but the main shoutout goes to my teammates and mentors, Stuart Crowell and Delroy Gill, the creators of the Live Distinct Team at Liv Sotheby’s International Realty. They have welcomed me in and I am truly deeply grateful for the opportunity to learn from such experts in the field.
