We had the good fortune of connecting with Lauren Gale and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lauren, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Growing up I knew I wasn’t made from a mold. I have always been a little different. I have ADHD and learned as I went through college that I wasn’t going to follow any beaten path. This made things more challenging but also more creative and exciting which kept me on the path I was creating for myself. Music has always been my lifeblood. I took lessons as a kid and was in marching and concert band through high school. It always felt like the most natural path for me.

My bachelors degree is in Music Business from UC Denver. During college and for seven years afterward and I pursued music as a touring musician. I had a lot of wonderful successes including playing Red Rocks and Vans Warped Tour. Something shifted in me and it became a life I was no longer interested in. That’s when I started Heart Nectar Healing in 2016 which I quickly realized *the* best way to share my love of music with people. I’ve had the opportunity to train around the world with numerous sound practitioners and my musicianship has guided the way. Owning my own business gives me the freedom to explore, make my own mistakes and allow for personal and business growth to happen on my own terms.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am a musician in my heart. I like to say music is in my blood as it’s a familial trait many my family members carry. My grandma went to Juilliard but chose to get married and start a family. I am the only one who has pursued it professionally. So the quest became to take this amazing energy I carry as a find a way to share it. It has never been easy, but always in flow. In many ways it’s the idea of “gig economy.” The work comes and goes depending on the needs of my clients. Some of those clients are music students and some are people seeking sound healing. Marketing is one of my bigger challenges because I don’t have a background in it and I generally a humble person so talking myself up is a challenge for me. I know the energy and gifts I hold are powerful for the people I share them with.

As a musician I’ve played in many bands that gained regional success. I’ve toured, played Red Rocks and Vans Warped Tour along with many of the venues around the west coast that people dream of. It seems like a dream now, because it was, but these days I really feel like I’m living in a dream.

One lesson I’ve learned along the way is to keep believing in the magic; to believe and trust that my gift and what I can give the world is something that it needs. As a musician we beat ourselves up a lot. I recall asking myself questions like, “am I good enough,” “am I talented enough,” “did I make the right choice?” The answer is a resounding YES even though there are plenty of times I didn’t believe in myself enough. Yes, you are enough.

Heart Nectar Healing was born from the belief in Unconditional Love as a source of healing. Music has always been what I turned to for healing so it makes sense that I found myself at this intersection.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Of course my friends are probably in town for a great concert at Red Rocks which is quintessential Colorado. We’d head there early with a sub from Smiling Moose and tailgate for awhile enjoying the site and sounds of the experience.

We would likely spend a night or two hanging out on our deck, grilling and enjoying the sounds of the wildlife and see the stars. I would take them to walk around Evergreen Lake on a weekend so they can experience the lake full of paddle boards and people fishing. It’s a cool scene that I normally avoid on weekends.

My friends and I would be out in Nature a lot! I would show them some of my favorite secret hiking places that I can go for a quiet hike with my dogs. Hopefully they would be out for wildflower season. If not, maybe we’re skiing or snowboarding up at A-Basin. After that I would take them to Lariat Lodge for a good beer and maybe some wings or a burger. We can watch some of the action of Evergreen from their deck. It’s a great view.

I’d take them to Idaho Springs and we’d go to Tommyknockers or pop into Main Street Cafe for a more local experience. If they haven’t done a gold mine tour I would definitely take them to Argo or Phoenix to learn more about the history of Colorado. I grew up in Golden so we’d head down the hill and walk the main drag where I’d tell them about all the places that I used to go as a kid that aren’t there anymore (RIP Foss Drug). We’d go see Clear Creek and maybe check out Coors Brewery if they were into that.

Back in Evergreen I’d take them to Cuisine of the Himalayas or Beau Thai. I really like international cuisine. Those are two of my favorite places to grab some food. Of course we’d have to go to The Bagelry before one of our hikes. I love that place! Best lox around! Plus the owner, Derek, and their whole team are really nice. I would love to take them to Wildflower Cafe and/or Blackbird Cafe. I love them both. Switchback BBQ has the best ribs around so we better get there before they run out!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
This is such a fun question! I didn’t think about a book as a shoutout until it was mentioned here, but that’s what I’m going for!

Victor Wooten is a famous musician and bassist. His whole family are musicians and they’ve played together since they were kids. Victor wrote a book called The Music Lesson that I’ve read several times. It’s a wonderful journey through Victor’s rediscovery of Music as an energy that we all carry with us. He writes in a really interesting and digestible way that takes you along on the journey like you’re walking along side him.

I would also like to add an honorable mention to Stephan Hume who is the owner of Littleton School of Music. I met Stephan in college and right after we graduated he asked me to come teach with him at the music school when it was just a fledgling. I didn’t have much teaching experience at the time, but he saw something in me and knew I would be great. 15+ years later it’s still a very important part of my business and how I give back to my community. I love giving the joy of Music to as many people as I can.
