We had the good fortune of connecting with Lea Flores and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lea, how does your business help the community or world?
Id like to think that what I do helps women in so many ways. People tend to think of a Boudoir photo shoot as just sexy pictures for their significant others. I always tell women its actually a two fold gift, and that is because they receive so much from the experience itself. It is a HUGE confidence builder. Many women that have come to see me have either experienced sexual abuse and dont want to feel shame in their sexuality, some are coming in because of tremendous weight loss, and again others for a painful divorce where they just want to feel sexy again. I feel that if a women walks out of the studio with her shoulders back and her head held a little bit higher then when she walked in, I have served her in so many ways.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Boudoir, so many people do not even know what that word is and yet it has been around in some form for centuries. Boudoir is a french word that means bedroom. Its a very intimate way to celebrate a woman and her sexuality and capture that in a photograph. Id like to think that I helped evolve the late 1980’s early 90’s glamour shots to a more edgier but still classy type of photo. I used to photograph all types of sessions from weddings, babies, families ect. but my love for working with women one on one continued to bring me back to boudoir. Fear, however was a huge factor in holding me back of letting everything else go. I thought that if I stopped doing all the other sessions that I would lose money, and clients. In fact it was just the opposite, It wasn’t until I forced myself to make the decision of boudoir photography being my niche in the industry that my true success came. What I do changes the life of women. Don’t believe me, just go ahead and read my reviews on Google. Once women get in the studio with me, they see it is about so much more then the photos. Its about what they gain in the session. The pictures will be beautiful, but they are just the icing on the cake.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I’m the best entertainer. Well at least I think so. I love to try all the new spots when they open in Colorado Springs so that I have the knowledge to be able to refer someone to a very authentic restaurant or experience. If a friend was coming to visit me, I would take them out for some street tacos at Dos Santos in Down town Colorado Springs, finish with drinks next door at Cork and Cask. Of course they would stay at my new studio apartment that will soon be available on Air BnB for an amazing night in a country setting but only 15 minutes away from the city. We might head out on the Fountain Colorado trails for a horse ride and end the night at our home with a fire and some All Star Pizza. I love my City! My husband and I travel a lot but still have yet to find a state with more to offer and as beautiful then Colorado. No wonder so many people want to live here.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I thank specifically my husband, who continues to push me to continue with my dreams, visions, and aspirations. Photography is such a hard business and so many women have told me that their significant other cant understand why they would want to leave a full time job to chase that dream. My husband on the other hand was such a big encouragement of me pursuing photography full time. I may still be working for another person making them money if he hadn’t been such a leaning tower for me.
