We had the good fortune of connecting with Lee Walters and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lee, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Starting my own business was something I’d always wanted to do going back to high school. When evaluating different businesses to start I looked at over 100 different concepts across all types of businesses. It ultimately came down to finding a business where I felt like there was a growing need and where I felt we could actually help people in so many ways. Pearle Vision just fit those parameters better than anything I considered.

What should our readers know about your business?
When I opened my Pearle Vision Eyecare Center in Colorado Springs, we’re the only location in Colorado Springs but we plan on opening more here and in Pueblo, my overriding goal was to provide world-class service to every one of our customers. When interviewing potential staff I not only was interested in their optical capabilities but, maybe even more so, their customer service capabilities. I interviewed a lot of candidates for each position and almost immediately knew if they had the level of customer care commitment I was looking for. The staff I ultimately hired are not only excellent opticians and technicians, but they have the personality that shows our customers how important they are to us. Our Google Reviews have been off the chart positive and when reading them you see that our customer service is the overriding theme of almost all of them. I want potential customers reading this to know that customer service has not died at Pearle Vision – Colorado Springs as it has seemed to at so many businesses these days.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
So Colorado Springs is a hidden gem that’s becoming not so hidden. If I had a friend in for a week there’s so much we’d take in. We’d probably start at The Broadmoor which is just a lovely place to have dinner and drinks. It’s truly an elegant place to spend time and there’s several little quaint places to have a drink and a bite to eat. We’d definitely take a stroll around Garden of the Gods as there’s some really nice hiking trails for all levels of fitness. Depending on the time of year we’d drive to the top of Pikes Peak, how could we not as it’s the first thing most of us see each day, as the view overlooking the Springs is unbeatable. There’s so many great independent restaurants in downtown Colorado Springs that we’d try a new one each night. 503w, Till and The Rabbit Hole to name just a few. We’d probably try and squeeze a trip to the Cheyenne Mountain Zoo as they have a new baby hippo that I’m dying to see.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I’d like to give a shoutout to both my parents, Tony and Elizabeth. They supported all of my many “businesses” as a kid. My mom loves to tell the story about when we lived in Georgia and how I would go door-to-door as a 7 year old selling pecans 3 for a dime or 10 for a quarter. That was probably the start of my “business” career and they always supported each new idea I came up with.
