We had the good fortune of connecting with Leigha Huggins and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Leigha, let’s start by talking about what inspires you?
Oh, the joys of inspiration, if only I can day dream all day long, what a beautiful life I could create. But reality and the human experience calls, especially when raising tiny humans. However, I do try to give time and freedom to my creativity just by giving time to get lost in thought… “which often leads to being “pinged with ideas and inspiration” I’m realizing the more present in my moments I become the more inspired I get.

I live in inspiration as much as I’m able, it’s the world around me, the conversations, the connections, the moments, the ahh-ha’s! The questions of curiosity’s that make me wonder… Is it possible? Could I do that? Wouldn’t it be cool if, or ohhh… that just gave me an idea. There should be an app for that, we should make that. Often, I’m eager to get into my creativity mindset, as that is the mindset where I receive great comfort and feel the most hopeful and free.

So, in short, I get inspired by everything, and everyone around me. Sometimes the hard part is finding a pencil to jot down a thought to capture it before it escapes. But I’m sure all the lost wonders of the world will be captured in perfect time. So, even if I don’t jot them down, I hope they land on someone else who just so happens to have a pencil in hand. 🙂

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I think my out of the box thinking is what sets me apart from many others who have traveled before me, as I love touching the untouched, dreaming up new, creating from scratch, flirting with ideas as they come and go. Sometimes running on trust alone.

For example, my newest book: Imagine A World – Full of wonder was created by hiring collective talent with a mission of love and connection – We hired 27 illustrators from around the globe and gave them an inspirational word list to choose from. Then giving total freedom to express their art and to illustrate the word however they wished. Letting the book come together as it did naturally. Only once we got the art back from the illustrators did we start putting words to paper. So, in essence we wrote the book backwards, as we let the illustrations give a story to each word and we gave it a touch of worded inspiration at the end. Rather than the words leading the illustration, we let the illustration lead the words.

We are in the process of trying to figure out how to fly little library cards to every one of our illustrators so they can each hold a book that holds all the talented signatures, that brought this project to life. I love flirting with all things creative, it’s like brain candy to me.

So those are some of my Yay’s, but it hasn’t all been easy peasy… (well maybe a tad lemon squeezy… but that’s just because you have to make the lemonade of life right) road to get to the side of creativity, I have really just started working on my own confidence in my own voice, and feeling like maybe after all these years, I may have something worthwhile to say. I actually have awful handwriting, and tend to misspell something somewhere, somehow… I think it’s because my brain moves faster than my efforts, and I have a hard time staying focused too. To me the distractions of life have always felt like an earthquake of disruptions, when really in all reality they were most likely just a little shimmy or shake to others. I’m learning to find grace for myself, and I’m leaning into trying something I never gave confidence to before, and just seeing where the wind will take me, for if this is my path for my dharma of life, then I’m in, and if there is something else better in store for me, I can explore that too. But I do believe that sometimes our biggest strengths grow from our deepest insecurities and or struggles. So, if I become a wonderful author of inspiration someday, then it wasn’t because I was who I was, it was because I became who I was meant to be.

I hope with anything and all things I do, I can spread love with grace. Those are the people I want to cheer on in the world, so I’m hoping the more people that know about me, will cheer me on too.

Cheers to creativity!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I still stay pretty close to home most days, but a dream date with my bestie would be to go out for a progressive dinner for each course of the meal, I just love adventures, and creating new memories.

I’m always down for new recommendations, but I do love sushi, Mexican and Italian food! I love the asada street tacos from Los Dos Garcia’s and really need a good excuse to travel to downtown Loveland some more to experience more, so hopefully my friend makes a date soon 🙂

I would lake hop, going to a different lake for each sunrise and sunset, I think those times are missed opportunities of simple beauty, I want to experience more of those moments with my family and friends. So, in short … I want to be outside, experiencing good food, good conversation, laughter, joy, and simplicity. That would be my best offered perfect day, so nice that we may want to experience the same day twice.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would like to dedicate my shoutout to Heather lean my co-creator on our newest book Imagine A World, my wonderful Hubby, and my fast growing kiddos, as they have all been my biggest supporters throughout this author journey of mine.

Heather, I’m so thankful for our friendship, and the endless hours of support for each other, in making us better in business, mommy hood, along with the other balls we juggle during the busy demands of a day. I’m not sure where I would be on my journey without you, but I’m so thankful and wouldn’t want it any other way, then to walk alongside you in our author journeys together.

Kevin, my love, I’m so grateful for you and the grace, patience, love and support you have poured over us during this wild adventure of exploring the unknown. Thank you for giving me grace and the space to create. I would probably still be doubting my words if it wasn’t for your belief in me in the first place. Endless gratitude for you babe!

My kiddos who give me so much love, nurture, lessons, and endless inspiration, thank you for being in my world. I know we were put here together with great purpose, and my heart couldn’t love and appreciate you any more, than it already does. Love you without end kiddos. You both were always the wick to my creativity, and your dad the perfect match.
