We had the good fortune of connecting with Lenina Olivas and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lenina, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I started the journey into skin care because clean clear skin is important to self-esteem. I didn’t always possess clean, clear skin nor did I have high self-esteem because of it. I struggled with cystic acne since I was 13. It severely effected the way I viewed myself and the way others saw me. When I entered my 30s the issues didn’t get better, like so many dermatologists said it would, I continued to get worse.

It wasn’t until I saw a female dermatologist that recommended I get monthly facials to help clear up my skin professionally. After seeing a professional esthetician for a few short months my skin dramatically changed. My skin began to clear up and I gained self confidence. I started receiving compliments on my skin and I knew it was due to my monthly facials.

Because of my personal experience I know how important professional skin care is and I wanted to help others who suffer from similar concerns.

Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
It’s difficult to choose between Business, Professional, & Artist because I am all three.

I am a professional skin therapist/esthetician but I am also an artist. I’m a classical still life oil painter as well as a former figure model. My talents as an artist can be seen when I’m working on clients’ eyebrows, eyelashes, as well as mask applications. It’s the holding of the brush, the application of the products, and the attention to detail that brings out my creative side.

At the end of it all beauty is a business. Part of business is marketing and being confident in oneself. Part of my confidence is having clear clean skin and being a walking billboard of what I do and what I can offer to a potential client. Although having cystic acne was difficult it trained me to take care of my skin. It also helped me to be an empathetic listener and understand what someone goes through when they are living with a skin condition.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
If someone was in town for a long weekend I would take them to the spa, go wine tasting, and take them on a hike. We would hike Devil’s Back Bone. Go to Classical Beauty Spa for a relaxing facial and end the day at Sweetheart Winery.
