We had the good fortune of connecting with jack cackovic and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi jack, what led you to pursuing a creative path professionally?
It’s pretty simple: I pursued artistic endeavors because I was good at it. I think we all are generally pushed to pursue things we are good at and if I was good at something else I probably would have done that. I keep pursuing artistic endeavors because I have a need to just make things, for my own mental health and to understand the world around me.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I start my day in my sketch book to clear my head, meditate on a single page, finish, then go to work. I keep my art practice as a priority but also use it to investigate the world, usually focusing on individual objects, portraits, or my vintage truck projects. When I go to work I never know what I’ll be painting, last week I walked into a gig painting Pamela Anderson and Lil’Kim airbrushed portraits. In this kind of painting work I see myself as a vessel to make someone’s idea a reality. My sketch books are for me, my interests, my focus, my perspective. I feel like I’m pursuing both in a balanced way that compliment each other. I guess The lesson that was hardest to learn in finding my “balance” was that commercial painting/murals/ signage work can empower the individual art practice. Commercial work can fuel the art practice, while my art practice inspires the commercial work.
