We had the good fortune of connecting with Leslie VanDerven and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Leslie, what do you attribute your success to?
Happy clients are the key to my success and the success of my brand. When my clients feel truly heard, understood and helped in an efficient and nonjudgmental way that improves the quality of their lives, they want to tell their family and friends about their experience with Welcome Home. There is nothing more powerful than the testimony of someone you trust.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Professional organizing has taken off in recent years, not only inspired by Marie Kondo, but by the desire and need for emotional and physical well-being. Overwhelm in the home can be paralyzing and bad habits, self-defeating. Feng Shui teaches us about harmonizing with our environment. Its philosophy guides me to work with the person before the “stuff” so that I can understand how their tendencies and possessions are affecting them. Together (with gentle coaching) we devise a decluttering and organizing strategy, then physically implement it. The result is a space that they are thrilled about, inspired by, and can maintain. I am always excited about the results of my work, especially seeing the pride and joy on my clients’ faces after we’ve cleared out a space and rearranged a room. The real reward is when they tell me how our work together has changed their lives for the better.
Though our brains work in different ways, everyone has a gift or set of skills. Organization does not come naturally to many people and if it did, I wouldn’t have a career in it. Ask for help without shame or embarrassment. It is my honor and privilege to help you love where you live.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I actually had a good friend visit from Boston last week. I took her up to Horsetooth Reservoir, downtown for live music, lunch at Mishawaka, to the Stanley Hotel in Estes Park, a show at the Comedy Fort, and a concert in Denver! If we had more time, I would have loved to take her to a movie at The Lyric.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I could not have started my own business without the encouragement and support of my amazing husband, Adam VanDerven. Thank you to Kathryn Kurtz of K Squared Design Studio who inspired me, my SCORE advisor, Mike Forney who motivated me, the Larimer Small Business Development Center and Katelyn Woodhams of Fire + Flow Designs who helped me, my subcontractors who work hard for me, and to my friends and family who have cheered my success.
