We had the good fortune of connecting with Lexie Younger and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lexie, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I purchased my business from the previous owner. I worked with the owner of One Enchanted Eve starting at the age of 18. Then in 2011 she was looking to retire and travel the world. It was a whirlwind at the age of 23 asking for my parents help to make the purchase. At first I did everything the One Enchanted Evening way. Then I learned from the many ups and downs who I was as a business owner and started to make some changes. In late 2019 I officially rebranded to Floral and Flame. This is the best decision I have ever made. The brand feels more like me and I can serve my clients better.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
In the world of flowers trends change so quickly just like fashion. In my years designing I feel like every year I get better and better. getting more open minded and creating new designs. It took a while but I found where I feel best. Learning from the many other florists all over the world. I love how the community has changed since 2011. Everything felt like a secret and we had no one to turn to and ask questions or collab. Now we are all more open to helping each other and solving problems together. There are so many clients out there for all of us. While I love designing weddings and events for my clients I also love freelancing for others.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When is comes to restaurants I love places on both ends of the spectrum. If we’re going classy I love Highlands in Detroit, Stella’s Table in White Lake, & It’s a Matter of Taste. I’m also a beer girl so I love going to Kickstand in Commerce & Rivers Edge in Milford. If you asked me where the best burgers are I would say Pontiac Lake Inn in Waterford & Copper Mug in Walled Lake. As far as activities go we have to hit one of the many lakes for a great boat day. Concerts are also a must. Pine Knob is the best outdoor venue around and some great spots downtown Detroit are the Majestic and The Magic Stick. ending the entire week with a bonfire in the backyard with good friends.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Lindsey has been with me from the very beginning. We washed buckets and learned to design side by side. Now she is my right hand and most trusted human in my business. I could not do this with out her. Everyone needs someone to tell you you’re doing great when things get crazy.
