We had the good fortune of connecting with LILIT AVAKIAN and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi LILIT, how do you think about risk?
How do I think about risk and what role has risk taking played in my life/career? I see risk as an opportunity to take a chance on your hearts curiosities. Like all things in life, there are logic and unknown, yin and yang, polarities, or duality. Everything around us exists because of this opposition, this pull. Risk leans more into the unknown. When you are willing to take a chance on the unknown, you are opening yourself to the opportunity of error. This is such a beautiful thing because the more you fall, the greater your potential to rise higher than you could ever imagine. Your capacity to love expands through the pain. Most of the time, when we take a risk and fail, it is not the fail that puts us down, its the idea that we feel ashamed by it.
As humans, we are meant to move with nature. Nature is always changing. The leaves slowly die and, eventually they fall. What we don’t see is the process happening underneath. The roots grow deeper, creating a stronger foundation for new beginnings in the spring. I see our humanity in the same light. The trees never feel shame or guilt for their losses, they trust in the process and come out of every winter feeling stronger than before. This idea has been the foundation of my life and career.
Many things I do involve risk. I commit rather than attach to a goal. When their is fear involved, there is always an opportunity to discover more about yourself and the world around you.
What should our readers know about your business?
I have created a business called Peace of You, a community for creatives. I originally started out as a breath work facilitator looking to host workshops and community gatherings. As the year has unfolded, this dream has evolved into an immersive learning experience for adults. This experience will take place in Taos New Mexico on March 23rd – 26th. The dream is to then take these experiences all over the globe. My passion is to be a conduit for others to experience creative insight. We are all unique. We have our own unique set of gifts and challenges. For me to stick to one modality seemed limited. I do not believe we truly ever heal from our experiences. I believe our capacity to love only expands through the falls we endure.
I got to where I am today by taking risks. I left my corporate job with no idea what was next. I sold everything with the intention to live as nomadically and minimal as possible. This detatchment from the material world gave me the space to create. So i began to explore. I have experienced heavy traumas in this life=time. They had consumed me for so long. Movement and creative art has given me the opportunity to dissect these feelings without actually having to talk about them directly.
In this part of my business journey, I am shifting the narrative that I do not want to be seen in my vurnerable states. I am breaking familiar patterns around scarcity and the idea that to have money is bad. This is most certainly not easy. it has been one of the hardest journeys I have ever been on. However, I am deeply grateful for every experience, for it has allowed me to be standing here today. The biggest lesson i have learned is to always trust my intuition. I will never be everyones cup of tea. i will never be able to satisfy every personality. However, my confidence in myself and my process grows stronger each day. I now understand I have my own unique set of gifts, my own unique blueprint. This blueprints comes with its own unique challenges that may not make sense to everyone. However, I choose to navigate these parts of life with confidence that I will make it through.
I would love the world to know that Peace of You will be an evolving process. It will be a project that brings people in from all over the world. It will be series of safe spaces to really expand, or to fall. Wherever you are at in life is perfect, whole, and complete. The more we lean into whats in front of us, the higher we will rise as a collective.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would bring them first to the Santa Fe Arts District. What most people do not know is that this district was one of the first in the world AND it was created with zero dollars. Although it doesnt seem like much, each pocket is filled with unique characters and creatives. If you look beyond the flashy signs and picture perfect asthetics, you will stumble upon some of the greatest conversations in life. The energy here is special, people desire being seen and heard. Supporting other creatives is always a unique experience. it is a look into the world from a new point of view. It is a story without words. That, to me, is so special.
On the other end of it, I am a HUGE foodie. I would take them to the Churasco food truck in five Points for the best quesadilla. Then, we would venture over to Mango mango for creatively tasty desserts. For dinner, we would go to Masha and the Bear or Bosphorous. These are two hole in the wall international restaurants with some of the best food in town. I love a good adventure and tend to lean more towards the hole in the wall establishments. We would grab late night drinks at esp.hifi, a japanese liscening bar that plays different records every 15 minutes.
As far as outdoor adventure, I would take them to my secret spot in Mount Falcon Park. it is one of the only places close to Denver, where you can see mountains for miles.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
If I could thank one person in my life, it would be Georgia Amar. She is the owner of Habitat Gallery and founder of the Santa Fe Arts District. Georgia is one of those people who speak their minds freely. She embodies freedom on many levels. Her ability to draw people in, break societal standards, and foster deep connections is something I have never seen before. I am blessed to live above her art gallery and story tell with her on the daily. She has created this window for me to see through. Whether its words of encouragement, simplifying the complicated, or decoding the emotional web that exists between humans, Georgia does it all with ease.
It has been quite the experience looking into the eyes of a 70 year old and seeing myself. It was a reminder that my life has no timeline. Nothing and everything matters. The present is really all we have. We create goals and visions of the future. We then become so unattatched to them that we allow ourselves to discover all we can in the moment. We trust that our commitment to the vision will unfold.
Lastly, I would thank myself. Without my willingness to look deeper, ask questions, and take risks. I wouldn’t be where I am today. It is of most importance that i recognize myself in this process of being a human. We can read hundreds of books, have deep conversations, and search for more knowledge, however, it means nothing unless we choose to really embody that information. Filtering out what works for you, and releasing what doesnt.
