We had the good fortune of connecting with Lilith Mara and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lilith, how does your business help the community?
Not many people know this but, I have Aquatic Urticaria. This means, I’m allergic to all types of water i.e: sweat, rain, snow, humidity etc… This condition limits me quite a bit and, many have often told me the careers I’m choosing is too dangerous. I still push and work hard for each collaboration, ensuring that nothing will slow me down. My efforts are to show everyone that it doesn’t matter what illness you may have or what you look like; Everyone is beautiful and is capable of being a Model and should never let anyone doubt them, even if the person doubting happens to be themselves.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
With my work, I am most proud of my guidelines. I do not allow full nude collaborations, my limit is implied and it must be kept classy. I believe this helps those who are wanting to get into this industry understand you’re supposed to have morals and boundaries. A photographer or agency should never make someone feel uncomfortable or “not enough”. It’s ok to stand up for yourself and I encourage it. When you see your art, you should always see yourself in it. I’ve learned to limit myself to certain collaborations that, money should never be worth my morals and comfort. Safety and comfort, should always be accommodated.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would go crystal hunting with them! local shops, waterfalls, mineral rich places, and so on. I wouldn’t really take them out since, I live in Saint Louis, MO. But we would order Imo’s Pizza (it’s only in STL!), play Xbox or have a spooky movie marathon! I’m a big coffee and tea drinker so, I’d definitely try to expand their taste pallet to different kinds. I’m not really extroverted so, we would build pillow forts and just chill!
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Michael Jackson is and always will be my inspiration. He was embarrassed of his vitiligo due to the opinions of others but yet, still worked hard to spread a positive word through his music and in person to others. To save our world, our children and that anyone, could be anything they dreamt of being. Regardless of race, religion, illness etc… Michael was greatly ridiculed by the public for being unique and having strong empathy, greatly misunderstood and abused.
