We had the good fortune of connecting with Lily Lee and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lily, why did you pursue a creative career?
I was in the beauty business for many years since my late teens only because it was something I had as a backup plan if college wasn’t the road for me. But because of that it was never what i really enjoyed doing and so after years owning the business it just took a toll on me mentally . Started to dread coming in every day. But just so happened that my daughter told me about Mochinut and so when I went to get some donuts suddenly the idea of buying into the franchise and doing what I love would be so fun. Since every location is individually owned, we are allowed to come up with our own glaze flavors and decorations. I’m a very hands on owner so it’s finally something I enjoy and get creative with

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Well like any food industry, it’s many hours and hard work . I just didn’t expect it to be so hard on me physically since I’m on my feet 12-13 hours a day. Running inventory 3-4 times a week to multiple locations too. Yes, we are a franchise but we’re individually owned and we have to come up with donut glazes on our own. I put a lot of thought and researching weekly for new ideas to make the donuts different, fun, cute and tasty. I use real fruit purées for my glazes. This first year was hard since we opened during inflation and the investment was much more than anticipated but I’m proud of starting it from the ground up to a full running business.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado has so much outdoor things to offer but definitely more for the outdoorsy people I think. So it’d anywhere from:

Hiking- Red Rocks, Estes Park, Garden of the Gods, Evergreen and many more

Restaurants- Mochinut Northlglenn(of course have to come by my place), Shannahan’s is fancy and awesome, Sushi is top notch at Uchi

And since we have a camper it’s Gota be camping/fishing somewhere

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Thanks to my parents who were very scared for me to take this huge chance and big investment but was supportive of me. My husband who probably thought I was crazy since everything I do i do without hesitation but told me if I’m sure then let’s do it! I would give much thanks to the gals at the office of City of Northglenn who were so kind to help me get everything with the many paperwork, licenses , permits etc.
