We had the good fortune of connecting with Danielle Crocker and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Danielle, what do you attribute your success to?
Collaboration. Working with other artists and creatives has truly been the secret to any of my success and longevity. From producing actual projects together, to just keeping me inspired and open. I am certain I would have hung up my needles a long time ago if I tried to do this without leaning on and lifting up others.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m currently working under DMCB (my initials) sourcing vintage textiles to turn into heirloom quality wearables for adults and children as well as manufacturing goods in house for other labels.
I spent a decade in NYC working in every area fashion from sewing warehouses to retail purchasing to behind the scenes of NYFW. It was a crazy and often financially difficult time but I learned invaluable lessons and got to work with some incredibly talented people. I am grateful for every moment.
With DMCB I get to take my lifetime of sewing plus 2 decades of real world experience and put it to use to make the best products for my brand, my clients brands, and our customers.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Here is a list in no particular order:
-Denver Zoo (get a margarita at the pavilion, see ALL the baby animals)
-Graffiti art walk (we love finding pieces by @birdseedanthony and @detour303)
-Thrifting (if it’s not Thriftcon weekend we love Fever Dream on Fillmore)
-Leadville (I grew up here so we have to get out of the city at least one night!)
-Edgewater Public Market (Gladys and Black Box Bakery)
-Fort Greene Bar (named after my old neighborhood in Brooklyn this place has been an Oasis. Drinks, Music, Food, Vibes)
-Casa Bonita (duh)
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d love to dedicate my shoutout to my grandma Jane. She taught me to sew as a child and has always been a huge role model. She brought me to her sewing groups as a kid, owned a quilt shop in Leadville call Mt.Elbert patchwork, and created some of the most beautiful and artistic quilts I’ve ever seen. She is still a mentor, supporter, and a big driving force behind what I do.
