We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Martin and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, can you tell us about an impactful book you’ve read and why you liked it or what impact it had on you?
So many to choose from! I used to work at Borders (RIP) and slowly transformed into a bibliophile. I would say that the book that had the biggest impact on me was, “Subliminal: How Your Unconscious Mind Rules Your Behavior”, by Leonard Mlodinow. I honestly don’t know where to begin other than the reason this book caught my eye was the cover, which plays into what the book is conveying in the first place- how our subconscious is being influenced consistently. It’s such an approachable read regarding neurological concepts that extend far beyond the reaches of the chapters and it was not only so incredibly satisfying to read, but also so gratifying to reflect intentionally after the fact. I think it took me about 2 years in total to read it, but the chapters are dense in a wonderful way that allowed for reflection, which was unlike any book I had read before. I feel like this is something that easily conceptualizes the us vs. them principle, memory, sensory inputs, assessments of others, and so many other pieces that it’s a dense read but so incredible.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I feel like genuine connection, an eagerness for authentic alignment in word and energy sets me apart. I’ve come to find that I offer a place that’s nonjudgmental and safe for others to share what’s truly coming up for them versus what they think I may want to hear. I truly want us all arriving at our truths and authenticities, and if I get to make an appearance on someone else’s path/journey, I’m honored to guide. I dealt with a pretty traumatic event a few years back that really shaped me into the person I am today. It lead me to question so much more than I ever had before, and jostled me onto a spiritual path, which was replete with helpful people and not so helpful people that just wanted my money/business. It wasn’t easy and it continues to be a challenge on a regular basis- I consistently have to remind myself that healing is not linear and oftentimes, we’re being met with similar challenges to those we’ve addressed in the past. I’m able to utilize (and oftentimes, channel) intuitive guidance through conversation, energy healing, specialized sound medicine, and plant medicine (ceremonial cacao) to assist in someone’s co-healing. I intend to move forward with customized suggestions in the event that someone may need more spiritual tools in their arsenal. At the end of the day, I’m assisting in the facilitation of spiritual healing, so I much prefer the language of co-healer; the other healer is, of course, my Client.

Initially, I thought overcoming challenges (in general) was solely on my own shoulders. I think that there’s a truly special magic in being vulnerable and open with not only others but with yourself – and also putting your trust in others as well. The ones that are meant to stay will, and the ones who are in your life temporarily, will fade away. I think working more and more to be at peace with knowing when to let go of things (and people) is one of the greatest and most underrated gifts that we can give to ourselves on our journeys. Getting out of my own head and into my heart has been a groundbreaking practice, and I want to create spaces for others to arrive at their own spiritual healing practices by way of their own internal wisdom that I assist them in uncovering.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Honestly, it truly depends on which friend is visiting, where the energy level is, how the weather’s looking, and to what level of adventure they’re looking for! Colorado has SO much to offer, but we’d definitely make a trip to Root Down for their delicious food. Honey Elixir Bar was a spot I’d just checked out recently and I love that they have both non-alcoholic as well as alcoholic options. I’d love to get into a museum at some point, bop up to Grand Lake, go hiking and/or mountain climbing, and honestly, just enjoy their company. Colorado truly sells itself; I just need to do the driving.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My therapist, Jane Shersher, has made such a tremendously positive impact on my life. I feel like there are those with whom you are reluctant to be honest and authentic for fear of judgement. I would guess that’s why a lot of people (that have the financial accessibility to therapy) have a tendency to resist mental health services and taking a critical look at one’s own mental health. In my time spent working with Jane, I’ve felt gently guided to my own answers, gifted constructive conversation and solutions, as well as different perspectives that helped to widen my focus outside my own scope.

Mentorship, Cathi Kennedy of ProMotion in St. Louis. She continues to embody collaborative, compassionate, and communicative leadership that I strive to emulate on a regular basis.

Organization would have to be Hands Hooves and Hope Ranch in Illinois, where I spent part of my journey navigating PTSD by volunteering – I re-learned how to interact with others – people and animals, from a compassionate, authentic, and communicative place.

A book that helped out would be “Breaking the Habit of Being Yourself,” by Joe Dispenza. It provides you with certain tools and exercises to get to the bare bones of the true self versus the conditioned self (narratives, old patterns) and creates a bit more discernment that may not have occurred otherwise.
