We had the good fortune of connecting with Lindsay Seier and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lindsay, why did you pursue a creative career?
From an early age, I knew that I saw the world in a unique way. I was a little girl who could discover connections through abstract thoughts, ideas, and visions. All my “what do you want to be when you grow up” papers all were answered with “an artist.” Observation was my sport and it lead me to drawing. I loved to depict what was in front of me in a “new” and “true” way. As I grew up, the arts really became an agent that allowed me to feel like I had a voice, I had purpose and I am capable of pursuing these dreams. My creative career did not just happen because of happenstance. It took resilience, being sought after, and a ton of trust. However, no matter how hard I tried to speak a different language and not be an artist, I inherently had this deep desire to create and connect with people. I am pursuing this journey of creativity because I believe that the arts can restore communities, places, and peoples purpose in a new, true, and beautiful way.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I am artist that wears many hats: painter, muralist, artist in healthcare, and dancer are a few. Overall, my mission is to cultivate brave, confident, and healthy communities through the arts.

I am a trained arts in health practitioner at Centura Parker Adventist Hospital. In this position, I am a full time artist that creates projects for patients, caregivers, and visitors to humanize their experience at the hospital and uplift wellbeing. Most of my work includes making art at bedside with patients, murals, and providing opportunities for associates to be creative to prevent burnout and compassion fatigue. My work is focused on the recognition that the arts are an integral component to health and wellbeing. This focus stretches outside of the hospital walls and fuels my engagement with my community. I believe artist are the cultural prophets of our time. We have the tools to create change and be space makers in our neighborhoods. Art is essential to culture, communication, beauty, and life.

Through personal observation a child’s creative spirit is one of the first things attacked or stolen from a child. Society teaches us that art is a talent and not a sustainable career. However, my passion is to challenge and protect those specific lies. Every person is a creative. That can be really difficult for everyone to believe. Creativity does not look one way, it is vast and plentiful. I am all about creating community based opportunities for people to find hope, restoration of their creativity and see how the process can be more important than the product.
