We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Bartley and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, have there been any changes in how you think about work-life balance?
My balance has completely changed because of three little people I have been blessed with. After to moving to Colorado and having one child at the time, I knew I couldn’t work for someone else and be completely involved and have time to hang with my kiddo. I realized I needed to take the risk and start from zero and just go for it. It took a lot of time and energy and saying yes to everything but it has completely paid off and now I have three kiddos that I have to balance but wouldn’t trade it for the world. I still have a hard time saying no to any client but I have learned to put my family first and that my schedule won’t always be a normal schedule but we make the best out of both!
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Graykin Hair & Makeup is simple. I enhance the beauty that already exists without creating something that isn’t there. I love being inspired by the beautiful clients that I am around. I love the energy they provide and the challenge they allow me to take on.
I believe I got to where I am professionally today, because hair and makeup is truly my passion. It always has. It really has never been work to me. Ever since I was a little girl, I have loved hair and makeup. I remember teaching myself how to braid out of a book and learning makeup from my Mom’s Mary Kay Lady. I have always been mesmerized by people and their beauty.
I have learned to not take things to personally and to learn and grow from every challenge that doesn’t seem just right. I have learned to never stop learning and to always let creativity flow and not think too hard about things.
I would love the world to know that Graykin Hair & Makeup will always enhance who you are, your vision, and your beauty.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
To have the best time in this city for a week, here is what I would do! First off Hike, maybe FlatIrons or Golden. Get lots of good coffee, Aviano or Dirt. Take a little road trip down to Salida to check out the cutest little town and hike some more. Back in the city I would get a massage with a local therapist who comes to you. Shop in downtown Golden, Downtown Denver, and Pearl Street in Wash Park. Would have to stop for Bonnie Brae Ice Cream while in Wash Park. Take a walk there as well and check out local shops. Favorite places to eat and drink would be Sushi Den, Root Down, and Fruition.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would love to dedicate this to my husband and kids. They push me, challenge me, love me, and allow me to grow into the life we have.
