We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Talbot and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, what role has risk played in your life or career?
Risk is part of life for me and I don’t know if I could function any other way. If I am not creating and building I am not really happy. Being settled for me isn’t exciting, being settled or comfortable seems complacent, boring and not in a place of being creative. 19 years of being self employed and running a myriad of digital creative business and being in the health and wellness space for most of the time really have created a mentality that anything is possible. For those who always wanted to do something for their selves, it is not easy and or comfortable – when you feel like you are failing and question what you are doing that is the time to thrive and push forward to the next level. Risk makes you stay focused and push through the tough times – how to balance money and how to make things out of nothing is stressful or for someone like me exciting. Will there be enough money to pay all the bills, how does it all work – can I do this myself, should I start something with a partner, friend – can I trust employees or the person I start this business with to be as dedicated as I am. RISK is an exciting or terrifying word – so let it be your driving inspiration or let it be what drives you into the ground but if you don’t take risk what’s the point of living?
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Currently, my business is in Hemp CBD Retail – and wow retail what a world. Coming from a background of Massage Therapy for 12 years, running a digital creative agency and an ad tech business – Retail is like nothing I have ever done.. While it is exciting to create and grow something I often refer to my stores as my own personal prisons. While anyone that knows me knows that that is a joke of sorts, it’s true. They are always needing attention, someone to work in them and places I spend a lot, I mean a lot of time every day of the week. With Covid being a thing you might have heard about – the retail space has been uber challenging, maintaining a business, staying relevant and getting in front of those that have never heard of you or feel comfortable leaving their house is a challenge. While Hemp CBD Is confusing we started this business to remove that part of the process for people – curating products from the best boutique companies from around the country, selling quality and unique products. We try and educate people and while our shop might not be for everyone we have the most unique selection of CBD in the state, we carry quality products that don’t taste like shit and don’t carry things to just carrying things. If you want CBD and products you can believe in as much as we do then check us out – We are family run and take pride in our shopping experience and aesthetic design is very important. We sell Plant-based medicine that won’t get you high, we sell unique house plants and vintage Turkish rugs!
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
El Five, MCA, Edgewater Public Market, Uchi, Basta, Blackbelly, Sacred Thistle, Queen City General, Those random antique shop on south broadway in Denver. Deli zone in Boulder is pretty tasty – Bread Bar. As far as hotels go I would never recommend staying at the Ramble – they are not friendly and offer no in-room services.. My Favorite is the BORN and Citizen Rail or hopping over to Sunday Vinyl, the Source hotel is about as Cold as you could get – Wolf’s Tailor is perfect, also a little place that is special is Safta! I could go on forever but there are so many great places to check out – Do a mural walk in Rhino – Check out Colorado Sake in Rhino or Grab breakfast at Rosenbergs Bagel or Port Side – Don’t forget about Meta Burger for amazing Vegan burgers and other stuff.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have to say there really isn’t anyone in my life that deserves a shoutout more than my parents – While they never really encouraged me to do or be anything – They also never stood in my way or stopped me from doing whatever I wanted, while I have found myself and my life mostly from just being open and interested in everything around me – my biggest shoutout is to never stand in my own way.
