We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Chapman and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
I much prefer to work for myself, and even though the hours are longer and you don’t just “switch off” when you clock out, for me I still feel like I have more freedom working for myself.
At some point I felt I wanted and needed to do something that fed my soul and provided a safe space for others to come to feel safe, heard, validated. Initially I was going to get an office and do Reiki and Angel Tarot readings. However, after a car accident and during my recovery time, I felt this creation needed to be bigger to incorporate more offerings for the community, provided by more practitioners as well as myself. And that is the goal with Celestial Salt. We are creating a community serving the community.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I have never been one to stick at a “job” for long, a couple of years was usually the maximum I could stand being in one place doing the same thing day after day. At some stage I decided being an employee was not for me.
Myself and my first husband bought a business in Florida and moved from England in 2007. By 2010 both the marriage and the business had failed, but still I knew that being my own boss was the best for me. I had a few different ventures over the next several years. I had my own business as a professional organizer, then myself and my second husband had a couple of nutrition clubs and worked in the world of wellness, after a few years of this both the business and marriage failed.
The main thing I got from these experiences is that I loved helping people feel better, and to embrace who they are to become their best selves, I love that I can provide a space for people to provide services that help others.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I’ll be honest, this is not a me thing really, I am fairly reserved and don’t do a lot outside of work, I usually like to hangout in my basement doing Acrylic Paint pouring, I do love people, but I love my alone time too. Recharging is important.
However, fun things for me are going crystal shopping for my business or going for a beautiful drive, which Colorado has an abundance of these.
If I had a visitor and available time my hit list would be
Garden of the Gods, (of course)
Helen Hunt Falls
Sand Dunes
Royal Gorge Bridge
A trip to Breckenridge and/or Steamboat Springs going the scenic route via Wilkerson Pass and basically anywhere there is no light pollution so I can see the stars. Magical!
We did most of these when my youngest son visited from England, it was February, really cold but really beautiful and definitely worth the effort.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
A little bit of everyone and no-one in particular. Life has delivered many lessons, many of which I struggled through with frustration, anger and sometimes despair, but somehow I came out the other end, somewhat better, each time, each lesson, each experience built me.
Through these events there have been people who brought the lesson and people who, even subtly helped me trudge and muddle my way through.
I was introduced to personal development in 2012 and at first I almost scoffed at it, but as it slowly seeped into my world I began to notice and feel the differences in me, I am kinder, softer, lighter and less jagged. I read and listened to The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz, over and over, until it started to make a difference for me, eventually it did and I realized that where I had been in life was not as important as where I wanted to go.. I thank my friend Cina for encouraging me to invest in myself with Personal Development in various formats.
