We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lisa, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
I was born in Wichita, KS and moved to Texas as a small child. Most of my extended family lived in the Midwest and we visited that region several times a year as I was growing up. I love to travel and see new places and all of the different landscapes and wildlife.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
Me and my husband Chester have a ministry that seeks to bring the love of Christ to hurting children through wildlife encounters. We have a small zoological facility called the Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center and we work with children who are in the foster system, have experienced traumatic loss, deal with depression and critical illness. One of the programs is called Wild Wishes and that specifically grants wildlife encounters to children with a critical illness or loss of a parent or sibling.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If they came and visited us locally here in Southeast Texas, I would take them for boiled shrimp at Judices in Bridge city, let them visit the animals at our facility and take them fishing on Sabine Lake.
If it was in the area we aspire to live and are spending quite a bit of time (Estes Park, CO), I would take them up Trail Ridge Road in Rocky Mountain National Park to look for bighorns, marmots, pikes and beautiful views. We would have lunch at Grand Lake as we drive over to the west side of the park to look for moose-my favorite animal!
That night I would take them Mamma Rosa’s or Poppy’s Pizza in Estes Park.
And then maybe the next day we would drive through the Big Thompson Canyon to look at the views and stop for a little fly fishing.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
To the children of our Wild Wishes program through our Kingdom Zoo Wildlife Center. We grant wildlife encounters for children with a critical illness and loss of a parent or sibling and never cease to see how those kids inspire us.
