We had the good fortune of connecting with Lisa Pizzo and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Lisa, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
You have to take risks! Without risks how do you know the rewards. We took a huge risk almost 16 years ago when we quit our jobs and took all the money we had in savings and started our own painting business. Prep-Rite started out of our basement at our home and consisted of my husband and myself. We added a project manager and small crew. All we did was work. There were many sleepless years to build up our business and reputation. Over the years we continue to take risks. Our business plan at first was just to paint houses. Then it evolved into painting multifamily and HOA’s. That turned into studying, testing and adding roofing services to our list. From there we added apartments and industrial. All with a new set of risks and rewards, challenges and obstacles we never thought of.

Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I love our company! I love to work! I love to watch PRC grow and evolve. I really don’t know what I would do if I wasn’t working for our own business. It is a labor of love and a true accomplishment. I feel like we are different because we truly care. We are always available to our clients and we treat them as we want to be treated and we always do what we say. I think that sets us apart in the industry that we can be trusted. You have to do what you say you will do, and do it well. Was it easy? No! The industry can be super cut throat and sometimes it’s not what you do but who you know. There are games that are played and unfair actions. But we just keep pushing forward. We are so blessed and believe that with every closed door, 4 more will open. COVID brought a new set of challenges and we watch companies come and go, but we hold steady. We have had many ups and downs but on January 1st we will celebrate the start of 16 years in business. That is a wonderful feeling! We want people to know we are a superior company that focuses on customer service and communication. We have deep roots in our community and love giving back. We are apart of many local organizations and work hard to leave the world a better place in all our actions. Spreading joy, love and light in all we do and we want that to shine through in our interactions on job sites and in our finished product.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I love to travel. I love to entertain and throw parties. I love a good theme and love to give surprises. When my friends or family come in from out of town for the first time we have to give them a full Colorado Experience. We go and visit Estes Park, Central City and downtown Golden. Then we would experience downtown Denver. The Buell theater always has an awesome show going on and walking 16th street mall and experiencing the nightlife and all the restaurants downtown. If there is pop up bar or holiday to celebrate we would do all the themed things. Drive through light shows, concerts at Red Rocks and Fiddlers Green, and the sporting events in Colorado are great! Nothing beats attending a Bronco game. Broncos fans are like no other! Rockies games with the beautiful mountain views and the Colorado weather is always so great it makes it super easy to get out and explore our amazing state.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Prep-Rite Coatings would not be what it is today without all the love and support. There are so many people we owe credit too. So many people who took a chance on us that didnt need to. Starting with my husband and business partners previous job. They taught him all he knows. He learned how to be the best from their example. They continue today to be great mentors and friends. To a many property managers in the business. Mark Eames at PCMS and Jim Cowell formally at LCM to name a few. Both opened doors for us when they didn’t have to. Many mentors in the business who now not only trust us with their communities and projects but have become our friends. Not to mention all of our teams along the way. All the employees who help us grow and teach us life lessons, we couldn’t do it without their hard work and dedication. Our crews who have put in the hours producing a product PRC can stand by. Our family, friends and children who have put up with all the long hours, constant work talk and dedication to our company. My husband who has been our biggest cheerleader and support to keep PRC growing. All the amazing clients who have become friends over the years. PRC is a local, family business and we couldn’t do it without everyone who is like family to us.
