Meet Liv Thrush | Photographer

We had the good fortune of connecting with Liv Thrush and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Liv, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up in a very southern town in Florida, and we didn’t have a lot of money growing up so I had to entertain myself in simple, inexpensive ways like playing make-believe. I think that taught me resourcefulness and creativity, plus how to be comfortable being in charge of myself. When I finally got my first camera, I remember taking pictures and video of EVERYTHING so I quickly learned what seemed to work well and what didn’t. I appreciated people seeing things I made, and I realized how much I loved expressing myself through art and creative choices.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started taking an interest in photography around my freshman year of high school, and went on to attend film school to study cameras and post-production. At the start of college, I was brought to a local show and inadvertently roped into the world of music photography. I really had a miraculous stroke of luck getting my foot in the door, but what’s kept me there is my devotion to my craft and thirst for improvement. Being a woman in the music industry, let alone the music media industry, has been challenging to say the least. Some men underestimate your talent or focus, and some cross boundaries of professionalism. I’ve learned that the key to getting others to take me seriously starts with me taking myself seriously. I’m not in this industry for free shows and lead singers, I’m here for capturing those sacred, fleeting moments in a space of music.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
In Denver you have to go see the new Meow Wolf, especially if you appreciate art. I also really love the selfie museum. If you want something less urban, we could take a drive up into the mountains and stop pretty much anywhere. It’s all gorgeous. My favorite local spot has to be Beau Jo’s in Idaho springs, and if my friends haven’t been to Dutch Bros I’m always happy to take them for their first time. I love 16th street, so we’d have to spend a day down there. Denver Botanical gardens is a gorgeous place to spend an evening (and maybe do a photo shoot in the spring)

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My concert photography started on a complete and total fluke, and I always credit that to the boys formerly known as Almost, Maine, particularly Adam Shaw and David Dent. They gave me my start after a very chance encounter and my life changed because of that, thank you boys!
