We had the good fortune of connecting with Liz Chacon and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Liz, why did you decide to pursue a creative path?
When I think back as a young child, I remember being creative in many different ways, so, it was natural for me to pursue an artistic/creative career. I have always had a strong passion for creating something with my imagination. I decided to take the face and body art route because I genuinely love being around children. I studied childcare in my country and when I moved I decided to do something that involved both children and art. I began by volunteering at the Catholic Charities for many years and that is when I realized that this was something I was very passionate about! My favorite part about this job is the mirror moments! When children, even adults, see their reflection, each one has their own way of reacting and most of the time they are huge smiles, faces of emotion and there are even those who almost burst into tears of joy. I love seeing how each child reacts. Like when I paint superheroes and they get off the chair feeling stronger, kittens and I hear “meow”, when we paint girls they feel beautiful when they see their radiant faces with butterflies or flowers, or when we add unicorn horns and lots of glitter they feel magical. It is a wonderful feeling when we see that a simple brush with paint can make people feel so special! Painting bellies is also something we absolutely love, they are the most beautiful and delicate canvases! It is such a sweet moment and feeling when we feel little movements or kicks under our brush!
I believe that pursuing this career was a very wise decision! I really enjoy what I do and now much more since my children began working by my side!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I wouldn’t say I had many challenges I just wanted to assure that we were using the right material and I had to learn about the right products to use that were hypoallergenic, easy to remove, biodegradable, approved by the FDA, and most importantly safe for everyone. The most challenging part for me was learning how to continue a conversation with people, I am a shy person and I struggle to find the next topic when speaking to someone so this job has definitely helped me get out of my comfort zone.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I have always loved butterflies. If a friend were visiting me, I would take them to Butterfly Pavilion in Denver. It is an enclosed exhibit filled with unique butterflies from all over the world. Every time I visit, I feel as if I belong there. There are so many colors around me and it gives me peace and tranquility and I would love for someone else to feel that same way.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I am definitely thankful for my family and children who have been by my side throughout this entire journey of mine. My children, Liz Isley, Aislyn, Ean, and Kyan, were my “practice canvas” for a long time and now they are the ones working by my side every day. We are honored every time someone trusts and hires us to make their events even more special and full of color and joy!
