We had the good fortune of connecting with London Monroe and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi London, what are you inspired by?
I am inspired by my Dad. He would take me with him to his studio where he did music and I would watch and wonder if I could do that some day. One day while he was recording I asked him ” dad can I try to rap “? He helped me come up with some words to rap on the mic and I some how ended up recording my very first song called Fleek. Since learning how to rap and also starting to act in shows and short films I became inspired by other young girls who rap/act like That Girl Lay Lay from Nickelodeon.
Please tell us more about your work. We’d love to hear what sets you apart from others, what you are most proud of or excited about. How did you get to where you are today professionally. Was it easy? If not, how did you overcome the challenges? What are the lessons you’ve learned along the way. What do you want the world to know about you or your brand and story?
Well first of all, I think what sets me apart. from others is that I’m a 7 year old girl Rapper from Denver. Not only that, but from what I’ve been told, I’ve accomplished so much in just so little time. After my first song (Fleek) I landed a spot in Denvers Westword Magazine. After that I starred in a show called Growing, playing the role of a little girl named Taylor. That was so much fun. Then I released my 2nd song called Chocolate and Lollipops (feat Blaime Cappo). That song got me an opportunity to get featured in the Colorado Parent Magazine. Then a short film opportunity came along. An Ella Vance film called The Ever Hours. I was able to play the role of Noah, a young girl who made visits to her momma from the afterlife. My 3rd song was called Earthquake (feat Kese Lane). This was definitely one of my proudest momments in my rap career side of things. I got to help out with the video idea and also bring my mascot along (Snowball’Yo) to jam out with me during the shoot. My favorite thing is to watch everything when its done. Sometimes its kinda weird, and I’m like “is that really me?’
My dad played a huge role of where I am today. Im not exactly sure how he does everything, but he just does. Pretty much everything I’ve done has been because of him. Recording, videos, pictures, graphics, websites and he also runs my social media accounts, of course since I’m only 7.
I really like the challenge of making songs, learning new scrips and roles for films. Its definitely not easy but worth it. I have learned so much so fast, but I love it and wanna keep going until maybe one day I can inspire and be someone other little girls and boys can look up to. I want kids to know that if you believe in something and work hard you can achieve it. I never thought I would be getting comments on my TikTok from other kids saying they are my biggest fans and they love my music. Such a great feeling and this is just the beginning of my story.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
My best friend and I would start the day off getting breakfast at my favorite spot Village Inn. I usually order a kids sprite to start off, then I would order waffles and a side of fruit. After breakfast we would go Jumping at Defy In Aurora. We would swing on the ropes, jump in foam pits and play dodge ball with other kids. I absolutely that place. For lunch, we would go to my favorite pizza place in Denver called Pizzeria Locale – Broadway. I would tell my best friend to get her own personal pepperoni pizza. They are kinda big, but then she could take some home. From there you would find us skating at one of the Skate City places here in CO. I just learned how to skate recently after falling a million times. Dinner would consist of Columbine Steak house in Denver. I will eat anything as long it comes with their Texas toast.
Other places I would take my friend would be the Manitou Incline. I did it last summer and it was so hard but I made it all the way up. Everyone was cheering me on at the top.
We would visit my cousin Daisys house and I would also introduce her to Snowball’Yo. We like to make TikTok’s together.
Alright, so let’s jump right in! The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there a person, group, organization, book, etc. that you want to dedicate your shoutout to? Who else deserves a little credit and recognition in your story?
I would like to give a Shoutout to my daddy for teaching me how to rap, recording all my music, doing the covers to my songs, filming my videos and building my website. He is also making a children’s book based of off me and my mascot Snowball’Yo. My mommy for doing my make-up/hair and making all the outfits for my music videos that keep me looking Fabolous. Everyone who has been supporting me like my sister Keilany, my big brother Malachi, my cousins Daisy, Olive, Sire, Timmy, Adonis, Harper, uncle Ralph and aunty Ledawn. Both of my Grammys. Marlena who has helped me out practicing scripts on nights before shooting film the next day. Shoutout to my Agency Big Fish for believing me and giving me a chance, and the rest of my family, friends and fans that love and support me.
