We had the good fortune of connecting with Lorraine Strieby and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lorraine, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I knew the world would not come to me I had to come to the world. We are talking about my art business.
I have a BS in business education and a minor in marketing and English..
I took art from well-known artists, watch demos., have a mentor.
I stopped being a public school teacher in business subjects.
Told my family when I’m in my art studio,
I’m working,
Started out as portrait painter, made the Los Angeles Times.
This was NOT what I wanted to do.
I wanted to paint my way and paint paintings and sell prints..
I got into galleries, was in juried shows, was juried into international shows.
Was President of two art clubs in Southern California.
How could I use my talent for a cause..
My idea, float for Rose Bowl honoring West Virginia and WVU, 2016. (original concept artist).
Taught art at Brand Studios, Glendale, CA
THEN, I wrote and illustrated 6 adventure children’s books, starring Mayor Molly McMole, head of her mole tribe,, became a blogger posting about my books.
Along the way designed and published s boardgame, wannaBtruckers, sold from Battle Creek, MI, Peterbilt honored me and my game—look the article up— Peterbilt,

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I developed my own style. Hard work on the marketing but I LOVE creating—painting. board game, writing and illustrating for me and illustrated and edited other authors, and taught art both for money and volunteering.
Now have a producer and became a screenwriter for my book,
Why is a Sly Called a Mole? about the American Revolution—fantasy based on fact and found Mr. Billy Lee, black American Hero

Love being an author and finding an American hero, Mr. Billy Lee and writing about Commander George Washington for he is neglected in our schools.

I would take them to both areas
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Ron Pekar, sculptor. 600 sculptures all over the world, and advisor at Disney, discovered me in the 80s. He never tried to change me just coach me—we painted together for 36 years.” My favorite Pekar sculpture—The horse. Traveler, mascot for USC, at USC. Mike Strieby and Stan Gunn my husbands both were my fans—and my daughters, all were my support—Vicki Parzyk, Lori Constantine, Lisa Constantine Magistro, and Ann Strieby, my brother. Charles Ayer.
Women Painters West was where I competed, worked, was elected President and had recognition in Los Angeles as an artist along with the Wing Gallery, owned by Robin and Mark.
My high school, Morgantown High and three teachers, Carol Carr, Dorothy Stone White and elementary school teacher Thelma Mlorgan.
My mom, Margaret Ayer, who always had faith in me.
Lastly, my producer, Bradley Hirou, who loves my art and books and has given me the job as screenwriter for my
5th book, Why Is a Spy Called a Mole.
I was the Original Concept Artist of the WVU float in the 2016 Rose Parade—WVU gave me a good start in getting my Bachelor of Science in business at California State University and teaching credential.
I know I have omitted many others but I am grateful for so many others.
