We had the good fortune of connecting with Luke / Jake Bowers and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Luke / Jake, what do you attribute your success to?
I believe we’ve had success with the BWRZ project as we’ve always stuck to creating our own sound and having a form of originality. Nowadays, especially in the EDM (Electronic Dance Music) scene, there are so many artists that can sound the same and it’s become very saturated. We have felt our job as artists is to curate a sound that hasn’t been heard before. Artists we look up to have all taken this route in their careers and the success shows. Creating your own sound is difficult, but it creates an intrigue to the artist and draws in fans. There’s always a special moment when you find a new artist who has a sound you’ve never heard before, it feels like you’re joining an exclusive club and almost want to keep the artist a secret. This is the type of experience we want to create for our fans.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
What sets BWRZ apart from other EDM acts is the ability to produce a new sound that hasn’t been heard before. its what we strive to do whether that be in the music we produce or the venues we perform at. We strive to bring a new vision to the EDM scene. We are also set apart because, unlike many, we produce and DJ, opening a whole new range of opportunities and interaction with our fans whether that be through streams on Spotify, Soundcloud, etc. or through our live shows. Lastly, we are set apart from most with the fact that we are identical twins. This makes for great chemistry on stage, interaction with our fans, and overall addition of huge energy at our shows.

We get most excited about seeing what others are doing in the scene. The EDM genre is a genre that is ever expanding. Innovation happens on a daily basis and its super fulfilling to hear others sounds, how they do their live performance, etc.

The BWRZ project started with a background in drumming. Both brothers, Luke and Jake, began drumming at the age of 8, being taught for a few years and then moving to self taught up to today. This also sparked an initial love and understanding of music. From here, we began listening to EDM music. Artists like deadmau5, Kaskade, Tiesto, and Skrillex to name a few, all had an impact and grew our love for the genre. Luke stumbled upon live performances from the artists, seeing them perform for thousands of people on DJ decks. This sparked a new intrigue and further investment in a first set of DJ decks. At the same time, Jake was gaining interest in the production side, purchasing Ableton, a music producing software, and beginning to tinker with all it could do. As years progressed, both Jake and Luke gained more skills and expanded their knowledge. Once college began, both brothers began throwing around the idea of combining the two skills and putting a name behind it. Thus came the name BWRZ, a play on our actual last name, as we are identical twin brothers. Here is where things really began to take shape. Putting out songs on streaming platforms, performing at parties, bars, and ultimately opening at shows for well known artists.

Getting to where we are today was absolutely hard at times. Curating what we are today took a lot of time and effort. Selling tickets and pushing promo for shows in our early phase took a lot of work. It was hard but at the same time we were both dedicated to make it happen.

One of the biggest lessons we’ve learned along the way is that the EDM community is full of the nicest, most supportive people possible. Whether than be fans, other artists, etc. It helps you to do your best and have a significant impact with your art.

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Would absolutely go to RiNo. ITs an arts district in Denver with anything and everything creative. Its an amazing place to go if you love what makes a city cool. Would then venture to Lohi, a neighborhood west of Denver proper that has a very good and developing food scene. For nightlife, We would absolutely take this certain someone to one of many great music venues in Denver. You have The Church, Vinyl, Mission Ballroom, Cervantes, etc. Specifically, however, we would go to an underground show, immersing ourselves in the underground music scene that Denver has to offer. It has one of the largest scenes for underground music so it is absolutely the place to be.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
We would love to absolutely shoutout our friends, family, and most of all our fans! Since the inception of BWRZ we have had day one supporters, seeing the potential in us and being there for every show, supporting every song release, etc. As we’ve grown that fanbase has obviously grown as well, and we wouldn’t be where we are today with the project if it wasn’t for all of our supporters. You all truly mean the world to us and have helped make this project so much more than we had initially anticipated!
