We had the good fortune of connecting with Lydia Kerr and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Lydia, we’d love to hear about how you approach risk and risk-taking.
Honestly, I love risks— within reason. Most of my favorite experiences in life are a product of taking a risk. I lived on an 88′ sailboat in the Caribbean with 18 strangers for a semester in college, and it was one of the most transformative, magical experiences of my life. My husband and I moved to Iceland for a job on a whim in 2023, and while the job didn’t work out, we met lifelong friends and made a home abroad. I traveled solo to Greece for a painting retreat last year and learned that I was horrible at painting but still had a blast. I signed up for a 5k when I couldn’t even run a mile, got addicted, and am now signing up for my first full marathon. I wouldn’t be who I am or where I am without risk.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I’m responsible for all the brand strategy at a creative agency in Colorado, and I love what I do. I worked in digital marketing right out of school, and then started casually designing wedding invitations for a few friends as a side hustle. One thing led to another and by the time I was 23, I’d launched my own brand studio, Telltale, and was working for myself full-time. I still dabble in my own business, but right now, I’m really enjoying working for and learning from somebody else. The transition hasn’t been a piece of cake, but at the same time, it’s felt *right* all along, and that makes it worth it.
I honestly felt so shy about being young when I started Telltale, and I avoided talking about age as much as possible because I didn’t want anybody to think I wasn’t capable enough or experienced enough. I learned a lot in that season of life, but if I could go back and tell myself or others one thing, it would be to focus on doing your job well and leave the rest out of it, because when you perform at a high level, nobody questions you and my age was 95% something I was just in my own head about.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
Like a lot of people in Denver, I’m a transplant, and so I love that I’m always discovering new pieces of the city. I love all of our parks, and the City Park Farmer’s Market is one of my favorite ways to spend a morning in the summer and fall. A concert at Red Rocks is always worth it and rarely overhyped. Maggie Rogers is at the top of my list for a favorite Red Rocks show. I also love heading up to the mountains and skiing at Winter Park or when it’s warm, sailing on Lake Dillon. In the city, a few of my favorites are a Cart Driver/Death&Co evening, margaritas and shrimp tacos at Mister Oso, a rooftop night at El Five, and a killer bowl of pasta at Jovanina’s Broken Italian. I also love running on the Central Park Greenway, especially when I end up at Stanley Marketplace for a post-run snack.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
Gosh, there are so many things that have contributed to who I am and where I am, but I would have to say one of the biggest was that study abroad experience. When I was a junior in college, I lived on a traditional wooden sailboat through a program called SeaMester, and it was one of the first times when I really did something huge, totally by myself, sight unseen. It gave me so much grit and confidence that absolutely still shows up in my life today.
