We had the good fortune of connecting with Mackenzie Or Chris Schmalz and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We are a distillery in Palisade, Co. right on our 7th generation farm, Clark Family Orchards. The distillery offers stunning views of the bookcliffs and is nestled right on the Colorado River in the orchards. We use fruit Culls that are unfit for commercial sale and distill them into fruit brandies and Vodka. We also offer a wide variety of other spiritist including bourbon, sweet moonshines, gin, and agave spirits. We have a full service food menu that offers high quality pasture raised burgers, flatbreads and a variety of delicious appitizers.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would take them to Clark Family Orchards Fruit stand and Clark and Co.’s distillery for a delicious burger and flight of amazing spirits. I would visit a few wineries on a pedicab or tour van after.

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
Our parents Dennis & Staci Clark & Grandpa Larry Clark as well as previous generations who ran the farm and had the vision on someday distilling unusable fruit from our farm Clark Family Orchards into alcohol.
