We had the good fortune of connecting with Madison Gartside and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Madison, why did you pursue a creative career?
I always went by “you are art, create a masterpiece” which has always encouraged me to continue to open my mind, think outside the box, and take action to create reality! I pursued a career in rescue because saving animals gives me purpose. Since childhood, my interests have centered around animals, nature, reading and art. Growing up, I immersed myself in observing, connecting with, and researching animals, determined to create a safe space for them. I feel empathy when I look into the eyes of those in need, driving my commitment to rescuing and creating a better future for all creatures.
Directing All Aboard Animal Rescue allows me to dedicate my life to animals in need, channeling my creativity and passion. Our mission is to provide rescued animals with a second chance at a loving, positive life, free from fear and abuse. This endeavor demands innovative thinking and creative problem-solving, from raising awareness and fundraising to engaging the community and developing strategies for animal placement.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’ve always had an unconditional love for animals and creativity. Directing All Aboard Animal Rescue allows me to fulfill my passion by saving thousands of animals in need. Helping the abandoned, abused, and lost has always been my calling. It’s eye-opening to witness the extent of neglect in animals desperate for a chance at a better life. Although some may envision animal rescue as playing with puppies all day, the reality is a challenging life mission filled with heartbreaks and unexpected situations. Yet, amidst the chaos, I’ve found purpose and fulfillment.
Rescue work is a lifestyle, demanding constant support due to the worsening animal welfare crisis. Despite the sleepless nights and challenges, every effort is worthwhile for the animals we serve. Community support plays a pivotal role in our mission, showcasing the impact of collective action for a common cause. Supporting local rescues through fostering, adopting, or volunteering is crucial in making a difference! Every week we save 10-25 animals in need that otherwise wouldn’t have been given a chance.
My hope is to inspire others to follow their dreams and show compassion to all living beings. Together, we can create a brighter future for animals and humans alike. Let’s remember to cherish the precious bond we share with our pets—it’s a privilege to have their love in our lives.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I have friends from out of state and I always think what it would be like for them to visit! Here is a thought for an itinerary!
Monday – We would hangout at my place with the animals, then take a mountain drive on the way to Verns for breakfast! For the evening we would take a drive to Estes for a hike to watch the sunset and elk!
Tuesday – Make some breakfast at the house, then take a hike to Horsetooth falls with some friends and the dogs! For dinner check out The Still, they have the best steaks! Ending the night doing some arts / crafts or painting!
Wednesday – Transport day at the rescue!! I would be so very excited to take them along to experience transport day. This is a great opportunity to meet the incoming dogs that All Aboard has rescued off euthanasia lists. They could meet the team, and we would all hangout with the new rescue arrivals! This includes bathing the animals, giving them treats, getting to know their personalities, and sending them off to foster homes. At the end of the day go to the Rio for food and margs!
Thursday – Get breakfast at a cute coffee shop. Head to Denver and see where the day takes us!! There are plenty of hidden gems. Then in the evening check out Meow wolf!
Friday – Take a mountain drive to Mishawaka! Listen to some good music, and eat good food!! Spend the evening painting or creating art!
Saturday – Adoption Event Day!!! I would bring them to an adoption event so they can experience the joy of rescue dogs going to forever homes! The happiest day of the week in my opinion. After the event I would take them on a camping trip to Red Feather.
Sunday – Spend the at campsite in Red Feather enjoying the great outdoors and escaping! Check out the little mountain towns, listen and watch wildlife, maybe frolic in some wildflowers!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I wouldn’t be where I am today without the support of my family, relationships, mentors, all aboard supporters, and partners in animal welfare.
My family has always encouraged me to do what I love, they would let me be creative, take risks, and learn. I was a dirty tom girl that loved all animals including snakes, and always was in action! They always encouraged me to go for it and keep my head up and would support me every step of the way. I’ve always had big dreams and ideas, and they encourage me to make them a reality!
My partner is always there for me during the highs and the lows. When I’m feeling lost he is always understanding, reassuring me it’ll all be okay and we got this together! He is always supportive of my growth, and creativity encouraging positivity along the way!
I want to recognize my unbelievable assistant director, and rescue team at All Aboard Animal Rescue. Their hard work, commitment, and passion are making a dent of a difference! You can’t make the dream work without team work!
Mentors and parters have guided me with their wisdom and experience, helping me navigate the challenges of life and animal rescue work. Their selfless efforts and support keep me pushing through!
