We had the good fortune of connecting with Maggi Schultheis (Magnetik Moon) and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Maggi, how do you think about risk?
Taking risks in life and business are an important part of growth. You have to get uncomfortable to get comfortable. You have to push the envelope. It’s important to sit with the idea of the risk and see how it makes you feel. Either way, the decision is part of your path. I feel there are no mistakes, only lessons. I feel risks are placed in your life as a turning point, a shift, a new way of looking at things. Go for it. Why not, ha …
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
Maggi Schultheis, Magnetik Moon is a choreographer/performer/dj/producer/massage therapist in Boulder Colorado. Born in Pittsburgh, raised in Myrtle Beach South Carolina and later to Charleston and Atlanta. I’ve embraced the arts as my expression, passion, communication, connection,. I’ve danced since the age of 3. I studied dance my entire life, performed, competed with a dance team, was captain of the high school cheerleading team and went to London to represent the county in the Queen’s New Year’s Parade. I started teaching at the age of 18.. at 21, landed in Atlanta Georgia, managing Dance 101 dance studio, performing for hip hop artists, touring with American Idol star, Diana DeGarmo, performing at the city’s top dance clubs with world renowned dj’s and producers and showcases…I knew it would always be a part of my path. I started djing in 2010 and began music production at Slam Academy in Denver in 2019.
I am Director of Gold Dust Tribe, a tribal belly dance fusion performance art troupe. I teach belly dance fusion classes in the boulder area, Louisville/Lafayette. I play shows at venues such as The Black Box where I won a dj battle. A few highlights have been performing at Red Rocks Amphitheater for Random Rab and performing this past summer at Sonic Bloom with Gold Dust Tribe.
I embarked on a new passion last year, Massage Therapy. I studied at Berkana Institute of Massage Therapy in Longmont Colorado. I am now a licensed massage therapist specializing in therapeutic deep tissue and craniosacral therapy. My business, Magnetik Moon Studios, encompasses a full body ritual of dance and massage. I aim to facilitate a healing experience for my dance and massage clients. To honor our bodies as a temple, to move with intention, to gain confidence and self-worth, to emanate the best version of ourselves…to feel our best…to bring balance to the body.
I embody daily rituals and moon rituals to strengthen my connection to the divine and to the universe.
Some challenges have been during 2020..making a big shift in my life from bartender to massage therapist. I decided to go to school for massage.
I am so proud of believing in myself , making the huge move across country, taking the leap of faith and trusting the path to start my own business.
I have learned along the way the power of community and staying connected. In a world that can seem quite competitive, its important to build your tribe, your squad….the strength in community is so supportive and uplifting. Together we are stronger.
I have a show coming up:
Saturday Dec 17 7p at The Mercury Cafe in Denver
The event is Calling the Sun, Belly Dance Showcase.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If I had a friend visiting I would take them to a show at Red Rocks, into Denver to Meow Wolf, Adrift Tiki Bar and Herbs & Arts for all things witchy related then for some late night music at Knew Conscious Art Gallery in Denver. Into Boulder county, drive up to the top of Flagstaff Mountain to look at all the layers of mountains as you manifest what you want in life…to Yellow Deli for a green chai matte latte, cauliflower soup, fresh bread and all the good vibes, Little Herbal Apothecary for all the tea blends, essential oils, lip balm ..Into Erie to BirdHouse for yummy ramen, tacos and tiki drinks, like the prickly pear pain killer. Acreage by Stem Ciders in Lafayette for beautiful mountain views at sunset sipping on a hibiscus cider. Teocalli in Lafayette for the best paloma, cotija taco and kale salad. Take them to some hot springs!!! Iron Mountain Hot Springs in Glenwood Springs, maybe drive to Santa Fe to Ojo Caliente. I’d take them to some electronic music shows in Denver at The Black Box for all the filthy bass. Cervantes Masterpiece Ballroom for amazing music, artists and vendors. Your Mom’s House for a hip hop show, Mission Ballroom..maybe a concert at Fiddler’s Green on a blanket depending on the time of year, haaaa. Manitou Springs by Colorado Springs to SunWater Spa and Garden of the Gods.
And into Fort Collins up to The Mishawaka Amphitheater for a show and camping!! Such a vibe.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to recognize some foundational mentors in my life. I’m thankful to my dance instructors in Myrtle Beach South Carolina, Marla Sage (tap, jazz, ballet) Ivy Hale (modern, ballet), improvisation) and Deena Rizzo (hip hop). Erin Richardson in Atl (tribal fusion belly dance). Ofelia de La Valette (business mentorship). Ryan Heffington for your transformational dance classes that came to me during a big shift in my life, shortly before moving from ATL to Colorado…,and soooo many more choreographers and leaders in the biz.!!!! My homie Rick DeBeaulieu since 1999, beginning of the rave days. (Music/DJ mentor)
Alden Groves (Ableton music production instructor).
Jill Berkana (massage school owner, founder)
And thanks to all of my family and friends for your love, support and guidance along the way.
