We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcelino Murga and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcelino, what’s the most important lesson your business/career has taught you?
Small businesses are always glorified in the media! I have had to learn and understand that this small biz thing is not always rainbows and butterflies. The biggest thing I have learned from starting my own business that I can incorporate into my personal life would definitely be: Don’t be afraid to take risks!

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I build my originality through the blends of fragrance that I create. I am known for my earth-like blends such as Morning Flannel & Oakmoss Amber or my LatinX blends like Limpia (cleanse) and Santuario (sanctuary).

SoyMurga started as an outlet, a hobby and a distraction away from my toxic corporate work environment back in 2020. It developed and bloomed from a need to connect with myself and grief a couple of loved ones. SoyMurga originally started as a candle brand and through the power of blending fragrance transformed into something beautiful. I create based off of inspiration and need such as sexy musky earth like aromas!

We have faced many challenges with SoyMurga, one of the biggest bumps on the road being intense weather. Due to the nature of our products we are unable to participate in lots of outdoor makers markets. Packaging cost increases to keep our product from melting during transit. We got hit with supply chain issues drastically – Companies that we were doing business with either went out of business, were having a hard time keeping stock available and or hiked up prices dramatically. Even with all the bumps on the road, all the hard work and sacrifice is completely worth it. I love what I do and we have had a lot more wins and happy moments along the way.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I want to give my mother a shoutout. She is no longer physically here but remains in my heart forever. She was a hard working, undocumented & resilient woman who sacrificed so much. I get my hustle and drive from her. Because of her I move with an unapologetic force and allow myself to dream big!
