We had the good fortune of connecting with Paul Salas and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Paul, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
Owning my very own business is something that I’ve always thought about. Since I was young I have valued creative safe spaces and I had always hoped to make my very own. I was raised by two loving supportive parents that always encouraged me to follow my dreams so I went for it! Salons are a space where I feel like not only can we create a safe comfortable environment that nurtures diversity but also a space where we can help people be who they really see themselves as. I think this applies both our guests and our team.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Being a Latino and part of the LGBTQIA+ community is something I’ve learned to be loud and proud of. We are a gender neutral everyone salon and encourage a safe cooperative space for all nice humans. In today’s social and political climate just being who I am can be a point of controversy but within our safe space kindness is king and we aim to not only perform beautiful affirmative hair care but build a community of humans that feel taken care of and heard.
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
For anyone visiting I would always recommend the baker district and south Broadway as there are so many options for restaurants, bars, shopping, dispensaries, music venues, tattoo shops and so much more. Top favorites in the area for eats: Moxie, Sputnik, La Loteria Taqueria or Snooze and drinks: True Brewery, Denver Sweet, or Lil Devils.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without the love and support of my family and amazing community of friends, mentors, and clients. In my years of being in the business of beauty I’ve had encouragement to become a stylist, become an educator, and to build and grow the business I have today. I absolutely must also thank my wonderful team of talented stylists that see our collective vision and work diligently to grow our business together.
