We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcia Morris and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Marcia, how has your background shaped the person you are today?
I grew up on a Midwest farm with twelve brothers and sisters. We worked hard planting and later harvested grains, vegetables and fruits to prepare for the winter. My love of nature began there with my father who knew every plant, animal, tree and flower. I learned to appreciate and respect nature and relished its beauty. My love of art was rooted there along with the majesty of trees and animals. I’ve come to love the beauty of trees and wood in particular. Upon retirement I decided to paint watercolors on wood. Watercolors enhance the grains and character of wood, rather than covering its beauty. My chosen subjects include birds, flowers and trees. I created Nature’s Art to share nature’s beauty. “Nature’s Art… beauty is in the heart.”
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
I worked in the corporate sector for over 40 years until my retirement. I had several “careers” starting as a medical claims analyst, supervising analysts, organizing startup company, and lastly as an Executive Assistant for a Chief Financial Officer at a telecommunications company. I now enjoy using my creative talents to create art.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
My favorite places are in the mountains where I live on five wooded and rocky acres. Friends and family who visit find it peaceful as we walk around and admire the trees and beauty of the mountain. Part of my enjoyment, and theirs is to sit on our deck and watch the birds flitter about, as well as the flowers, bees and butterflies in the warmer seasons.
My favorite places are a couple local (Conifer) restaurants, as well as some “down the hill”.
A friend and I also enjoyed the Monet live exhibit in north Denver, and visited the Van Gogh exhibit at the
Denver Art Museum.
We can hike to the top of our hill, at 9,000 feet elevation, and see about a hundred miles to Pikes Peak in the South and Mount Evans to the west.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Cathy Jones, of Cathy Jones Art Studio in Evergreen, introduced me to watercolors. I’ve taken several of her classes and appreciate her guidance and art talent. One of my sisters, Kathleen (Kate) Hadley is a master artist and taught art for over 30 years. she has been instrumental in encouraging me to continue growing as an artist. Now retired, she belongs to an art group in Arkansas, and continues to paint in watercolors, oil and acrylic.
Other: My email and phone are my primary contacts. My hesitation in creating a website is that to ship any wood paintings would be costly . My goal in 2024 is to resolve some of my hesitancy and create a website whereby I can market locally.
