We had the good fortune of connecting with Marcus Alvarado and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Marcus, how does your business help the community?
My event brings thousands of people from all over the world to celebrate “simple living”. It’s not about just tiny houses or camper van living…it’s about taking inventory on our lifestyles. Since the event is so large, there is also a large economic impact on the cities we host our event. Estimates are around $2M-$4M!

What should our readers know about your business?
I started my business 4 years ago. It has been the hardest yet but most rewarding thing I have ever done with my life. I was working a full-time job (60hrs/wk) while also building my event company. My first major event was a tiny house festival in Colorado Springs, and while it drew 20,000 attendees, it was minimal on profits. Through faith and sheer ignorance, I willed my way into making it a successful event with multiple employees and digital presence that rivals major media outlets in Colorado!

If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Colorado Springs to see the Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, Olympic Museum, and good drive on Gold Camp road to scare them half to death on the one-way road that hangs over a cliff but also to show them the views that Colorado provides! And also a trip to Vail to hang out in one of the most scenic places in Colorado!

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My mother. She always pushed me to be the best while also maintaining my character. Tough love at the times seemed like a hinderance but honestly, it was the best medicine for me to swallow. She was always there but only to present options for me to problem-solve my way out of hairy situations. Love you mom!
