We had the good fortune of connecting with Ghozt and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Ghozt, can you tell us more about your background and the role it’s played in shaping who you are today?
Im from Connecticut and spent time in nye raves! Having the difference of peace and quiet in Connecticut and staying in the woods vs spending days in New York has shaped my love for mixing natural sounds and instruments with mechanical//sounds that are more mechanic and alien sounding! Also being online and being in communities via online chats and meeting people all over America + The world has shaped my love for music and had an impact because I now take interest in music from all over the world but also try my best to deep dove into new artist and new sounds and such to get inspiration from. Its a mix of the natural mixed with online/technological/alien esque that has shaped me.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
My art is an abstract showcase of music in a deconstructed way that you can play in the club (Sometimes). I would say what sets me apart from my peers is the fact I take inspiration from genres like nu-metal, deconstructed club, ambiance, Noise, techno, rock, pop, and rap, and I mix them all together to form my sound (Especially the unreleased tracks coming this and next tear) And I try to portray an experimental version of it.
I’m most proud of the unreleased work I have coming up soon its crazy and the art and visuals that goes with it! Especially the performance art I am planning. It’s a different style sonically and visually I’m diving into that I’m super proud of. I’m very excited to show it all this year.
To get to where I am today it wasn’t easy at all lots of trial and error and learning goes into what I do now especially being black + LGBT in the music scene i had to earn my stripes in a way. But to be where I’m at is a blessing and I’m eternally thankful for that and to be able to have a team of friends that help me and we all can do what we want to do. It’s amazing and I’m so thankful for that.
I want the world to know about me that my style is ever-changing and that ghozt as a name is a holder for all the music i want to put out! I want to do music and art of every genre and style as art as a whole has been a significant part of my life! I hope I’m able to showcase different genres and styles of art while still holding to the themes and nature of “Ghozt” And whatever it becomes in the future
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I am in New York and have not been there yet but would love to go to Wax Trax and twist n Shout Records (I heard amazing things about both and i love vinyl). Also, i wanna hit up denver skatepark i heard cool shit about that park and i love skateboarding
However, i can def give you a trip of things to do in nyc
Def hit up search and Destroy for cool clothes, then there’s Food Gallery 32 in Manhattan that has good Korean food, after that i would run through Bushwick and go to some stores and sightsee, then i would go clubbing (Clubs here are amazing) I like Nowadays and Bossa Nova Civic club rn but the club scene is amazing here and diverse! If you’re in the city at the same time a sksksks show is going on i would go to these shows ( I djed one and would love to dj another) There super fun. After the rave i would go to this fun place for tacos called El Regalo de Juquila (right near happy fun hideaway) that has amazing tacos!~
