We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah Grumet and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariah, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
I always knew I wanted to start my own business, but I founded Old Soul Etiquette truly as a passion project! My mission was and always will be to help people become the very best version of themselves, so they can go out in the world and shine their light and spread kindness. I knew my truest strengths and superpowers were not being utilized through the position at my corporate job at the time. I listened to my gut, took a huge chance, and I could not be more proud of where OSE is today.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
As a certified etiquette trainer, my mission is to bring an intentional sparkle back to a lost art in an effort to help make the world a kinder place. I have the honor of working with people all over the globe to help them create stronger connections, distinguish themselves, and reach their full potential in their personal and professional lives. My method of teaching takes timeless lessons of etiquette, protocol, respect, and kindness and gives them a modern twist to fit today’s world. I work with children on the very basics of good manners all the way to CEOs looking to take their professional presence to the next level. My services include private consulting, group sessions, webinars, and speaking engagements, on the topics of youth, social, dining, and business etiquette, as well as personal branding, wedding preparation, style consulting, and more.
Alongside my coaching business, I have been able to use social media to get my mission out into the world. In about a year’s time, I grew my Instagram account to over 125k followers. Never wanting to get caught up in numbers, I kept my head down and marched on. However, when I really took the time to pause a reflect, I changed my perspective. Yes, a number is just a number, that means there are over 125k people who stand behind me in my mission. Thats 125k people who want to better themselves in order to make the world better. That is something I could not be more proud of.
There are many challenges I faced along the way when starting OSE. Learning the responsibilities of being a business owner, fear of judgment and not being taken seriously because of my age, the decision to leave my very secure corporate job and then telling friends and family about it, the negative side of social media, the days where I felt like giving up- just to name a few. However, at the end of every day, the good will always outweigh the bad. I will always show up for OSE and my community even on the days I don’t want to, because they always show up for me. I am so grateful for and proud of the brand that I’ve built. There is a fire in me that knows the sky is the limit.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I would not be where I am today without my incredible mentors and teachers: Jacqueline Whitmore, Myka Meier, William Hanson, and Jo Bryant.
