We had the good fortune of connecting with Mariah Tritz and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mariah, what’s one piece of conventional advice that you disagree with?
I hear so often that anyone can run their own business. If that we really true then the average business lifespan would be greater than 3-5 years. Running a business takes so much more than most everyone knows. It’s not just an idea and go…it takes planning and time, money and time, paperwork, contacts, time, money, knowledge, education…did I mention time and money?
When I first started my business I had an idea, a loose business plan, a financial projection, and research data for both employee and consumer likes and dislikes.. I also knew my budget and how much I could afford to pay out each month with the money I had set up for the business to get it up and running and how much I could grow before I needed to adjust to the next location. I also had years of experience in business, a business degree, and knew how to get things set up and running correctly.
Can anyone start a business…yes. Should everyone start their own business…absolutely not!
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Intrepid Bodyworks is a massage therapy and yoga location that focuses on chronic pain relief, injury/surgery rehabilitation, and active lifestyle individuals. We stand apart because our therapists take continuing education (which isn’t required in CO), are highly trained and skilled at what we do, and know the body anatomy and interactions of muscles to better help our clients. We are not a spa or relaxation massage studio, our sessions are therapeutic and usually a little uncomfortable but we create change in the body to relieve pain issues.
I am most proud of the amazing team of therapists I have put together! They are dedicated caring people who love what they do and are above reproach as professionals. I am excited about the two newest additions to our growing team and the possibility of expansion in the near future!
How did I get to were I am…long hours, crazy amounts of work, learning everything I could to make things better and easier for me, and nerves of steel. No, business isn’t easy, starting or running a business is hard work. Over coming challenges is part of owning a business, and life. If you can’t figure it out you find people who can help figure it out. You keep moving forward. When you stop learning, stop figuring out the problems, you loose your business!
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
Really, I have to pick out a few spots in the state?! Honestly there is too much to do here. Rocky Mountain national park is one of my favorite places. Hike, sites, animals, it is a beautiful and wonderful place!
The Glen Bar and Grill and Highlands Tavern are two amazing places to eat. Red Rocks is the best place to see a concert or just to look around as well.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
I’d like to Shoutout to My family and most importantly, my husband who has supported me every step along the way! Having that support is so important to be able to keep up with the crazy schedules, problems that arise, and hard times that every business owner will face.
The friends I made through the MNCC who have given me ideas, help, and services that were needed to move and grow my business. It is sad that chambers of commerce are slowly dying as they are such a wonderful business resource.
Last but most important, to the clients that patron my business! It is our clients that make everyday interesting and worth coming to work. They also helped keep my business afloat during this last year of difficulties and trials. Without our amazing clients my business and employees wouldn’t have anything to do!
