We had the good fortune of connecting with Sid Madrid and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Sid, why did you pursue a creative career?
Choosing an artistic path was the only idea that really moved me. I could never imagine myself doing anything else. I have always liked the idea of leaning into what you love and playing to your strengths. I’ve worked several odd jobs throughout my journey but the goal has always been putting everything back into the art, back into the music. I can’t decide whether this is obsession or dedication, but it fuels the process none the less.

Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I make electronic music with elements of Techno, Acid house and Drum And Bass, and write neo-noir fiction based on real events from my own life. As far as music, I believe my style is more eclectic and sophisticated than the average DJ/Beat-maker. With every song I aim to compose some sort of intangible feeling that must be re-lived with every listen. I would say my professional life was shaped by hard work extended over many years in multiple cities and fields, and solid relationships made along the way. I do my best to approach every project as an opportunity to connect with someone who may help shape me or push me in better ways than I would on my own. You have to be true to your word and cop to it if you fuck up. I’ve learned that the industry is small, and it’s a solid idea to move with a sense of grace and professionalism in everything you do. You never know who is going to remember what about you. My story is one that spans the ages of time, I’m a seemingly normal human being who decided to tap into the infinite pool of creativity that surrounds us.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would cruise various streets and freeways that make up the cultural and geographic landscape of Denver for a week straight, providing some sort of stoic tour of the Denver of yesteryear to now. I would pick up a 16 oz mocha from Mutiny and sit at a bench in City Park and vape out, or spend a day cruising down Colfax with an unreleased mix of my new beats slapping the windows off my car, eventually stopping at Good Chemistry to grab an eight of flower and a pre-roll, I would have to stop by Red Rocks during non show hours and drink tall cans of Modelo as we view the cityscape and keep an eye out for security. I would take them to a few art galleries, notably MCA, Understudy or ALTO. I would proceed to smash on some of the finest culinary gems the city has to offer, Pho 555 on Federal, Tamales Moreno in Lakewood, Rico’s Italian in Englewood, Black Sky Brewery in The Santa Fe Arts District, Las Delicias in Uptown. I would honestly just spend time eating and rambling about Denver in the 90’s or something….

The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
