Meet Mark Turnipseed | Author, Speaker, Consultant and CEO of Halo42 Skincare

We had the good fortune of connecting with Mark Turnipseed and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Mark, what habits do you feel helped you succeed?
After overcoming addiction I decided to:
1) Make my bed every morning by 5am
2) To reach out, ask for help, establish mentorships in my life and not go at anything alone.
3) To prioritize health, wellness, and fitness
4) To ALWAYS show up, especially if I’m nervous and don’t think I can do it and to have faith that God will provide in times that I think it’s impossible if I just show up.
5) Turn off all electronics by 7pm
The truth is that without these things I can not be present for business. These things, in practice, are more important than any other element of my life, because all things spring of this. For instance, every morning, I make my business bed as well, by checking my emails. When doing that, I reach out and ask for help and I go about very few decisions all alone. I prioritize the health of my business by checking in, just like I do for my body in fitness. I always show up and I enjoy to show up to meetings the most when I’m nervous and don’t feel like I’m going to be good enough. I love these moments in life, they are the best. Also, I stop working on electronics by 7pm, but I’ll often write in my journal and on papers until the morning hours getting work done and dreaming about the future.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I got here by faith, but it wasn’t faith in any God per say, it was rather faith in love. I just walk into every meeting having faith in the power of love to guide our conversation and decisions. When the conversation and decisions don’t reflect love then the decision and conversation isn’t going in the right direction. When I do this, I notice that everything comes together and I don’t have to force anything.
The only reason I started living this way in business was because it worked so profoundly in my personal life. After a serious of suicide attempts while trying to overcome heroin addiction, I started living a new way, a way where love of self and love of others became paramount, instead of seeking comfort or satisfying empty desires. To thine own self be true became my mantra and to help others recognize their own self love, through the love I had for them, became my mission. If I concentrate all my life on these two things then literally everything else just falls into place.
Upon living this way, I was invited into all sorts of new circles and met all sorts of new people, people who were also interested in living life in love. At the time, I was a coach helping people to learn to love fitness and wellness, and that’s when I met Tim Quinn, formally the Vice President of Armani, who wanted some help with his own self love.
I was a little nervous and felt I wasn’t prepared for the task when Tim invited me to create a new beauty brand. It was something I never saw myself doing. But, I knew the power of self-love and that beauty routines are essentially the epitome of self-love that literally everyone on earth has access too. It was a no brainer. I was to help Tim deliver a brand that could help deliver a message to everyone on earth that self love and beauty is a human right and that its available to everyone.
The greatest thing to overcome professionally has been my limiting view of self. As long as I limited my view of self and the power of love then I limited my businesses ability to grow, because my business is an extension of me and my passion. The only purpose of self limiting thoughts is to point us towards our weaknesses and areas we can improve. This is the same idea in business. Surely viewing myself as a hopeless addict was the first thing that rendered me ineffective in business, but new things come up every day that I have to work on and now I welcome the challenge rather then letting it change my view of self.
This is the meaning of the brands name and logo for Halo42. People often don’t recognize their own beauty and promise. The rainbow, a sign of hope and beauty, is only clear after a storm clears. But what about for those people who are in the middle of their storm? What about the overweight person? The addict? The individual who’s lost everything? That’s where the upside down rainbow, the Halo rainbow comes in. The upside down rainbow is visible when a person stands at 42 degrees of the rainbow, no storm has to clear, they don’t have to lose 70 lbs, their hope and their beauty is there for them, when they shift their perspective.

Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If it was a day trip I would drive them up to Evergreen colorado and visit the Elk Meadows or three sisters and stop in the Muddy Buck for lunch! I love Evergreen, its where I was living when I first began mixing my own oils for skincare, because out in colorado my feet and hands were so dry the would crack.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
There are a handful of communities and individuals that helped me, and continue to help me, get to where I am.
My family for always encouraging hard work and fine tuning my strengths and always being there when I slipped or needed love.
Ironman Triathlon and the triathlete community for teaching me that integrity is what you do when no one is looking and is something that can make or break you in 140.6 miles, likewise in life.
My Counselor, Caterina Cheminti, who serves as my mental health and spiritual guide
My Business Mentor, Joe Gagnon, for giving me advice and acting as a sounding board, often guiding my ethereal and creative ideas into concrete solutions for business.
My yoga community for helping me ground.
My metaphysical expert and mentor, Jolie DeMarco.
Finally, my followers on social media for encouraging me to continue in the good work of spreading the message of hope and life and love even when things get hard.
