We had the good fortune of connecting with Janette King and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Janette, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
From a young age, I’ve always been independent and I’ve never liked the idea that I have to abide by someone else’s schedule. I’ve always known that I am a leader and I need to carve my own way.
Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
I’m most proud of my album, What We Lost. It was my first solo LP and came together from the hard work of some of my closest friends. I’ve had many years being in various bands and loving it but I always dreamed of making my own full length album that was under my own name. My biggest challenge I’d say was finding the funding the pay everyone properly and to create the best work I could. I want the world to see themselves reflected in my art. That’s all.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
First I would take them to Laughing Bean cafe for a latte and a cinnamon bun. Then I would take them to stanley park to do a big walk around.
Then we would head to english bay where we would find a place for sandwiches
Then we’d go walk Robson street and do some window shopping.
Then we would find some bikes for rent and ride our bikes over to mello, the worlds best donuts place.
Basically I’d make my friend ride bikes and eat sweets all over Vancouver.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I would like to Shoutout my manager, label head and good friend, Sarah Armiento. Her unwavering support and trust in my art is one of the biggest reasons I’m still even doing music. She inspires me with her hardwork and dedication every day. I’m a huge Armiento fan.
