We had the good fortune of connecting with Mars Brown and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Mars, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
Accessibility and Representation. I started my spiritual journey almost ten years ago and the most difficult part, for me, was all of the leg work i had to put in to learn the craft of spiritual healing through herbs and crystals and I also found that ambassadors for rootworkers who’d reached prominence did not look like me. I started Vashti Mars as a way to help resolve both issues. We supply the necessary tools – the knowledge and the items – in one place.

Can you open up a bit about your work and career? We’re big fans and we’d love for our community to learn more about your work.
We are a brand for creatives because we are creatives. Vashti Mars is creating a platform for artists of all Genres, especially underrepresented groups like POC. We’re a very new brand and have worked tirelessly to provide quality products so that with our community’s support we can support our community. We’ve added a marketplace to our website that is submission based for artists looking for exposure and intend to grow this into a yearly festival for artists to showcase their talent. The biggest challenge for a lot of us is snubbing out Imposter Syndrome and moving confidently into our purpose. Creating our very own space to exist is our solution.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
A trip to Denver has to begin, in my opinion, with food. This means our very first stop from the plane is Mile High burrito. After a steaming bowl of Birria Ramen we’re off to Downtown Denver to experience the skyline and the Haunted walking tour. Then relax. We’ll spend the next day touring the art districts because inspiration must come from somewhere. After our fill of art and food we rest. Next day we venture out to the mountains, so Black Hawk it is. Perfect mixture of outdoor air, gorgeous trails, and breathtaking mountains and we can end the day at the luxury that is the Casino strips. Let’s eat and get pampered for the night here. the next day is for fun activities. We’re touring the aquarium and the zoo and do a late lunch/drink stop and Dave and Buster’s. On the last day there’s retail therapy. We’re first going to Denver’s shopping district and then a short trip to my favorite mall, The Outlets at Castle Rock. and we end this night downtown Denver once more with bar hopping and nightclubbing with the new dress we got on our shopping trip.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My mother, Margaree Flowers, is the driving force for my interest in my heritage and creative freedom. She kept our heritage alive by telling me the stories of my ancestors and teaching me that my power lies within my self and my creator. She encouraged me to be myself regardless of the fear and i live by those words and aspire to inspire by example.
