We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt McCune and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
During my career I have held positions in different industries but nothing ever felt like a good fit. I realized not so quickly that the job wasn’t the problem, it was the lack of balance and collaboration. When Covid started, it became apparent that I did not control my own destiny. I started searching for a career that would give me the ability to take things into my own hands. I was able to obtain my insurance licenses and start McCune Financial Group from the comfort of my home.
Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
McCune Financial Group is an insurance agency that specializes in helping families plan for the unexpected. What sets us apart is that we take our time to get to know each individual client as a person to help build a plan that suits them best. Whether they need help protecting their home and assets or want to plan for retirement, we are prepared to be there for the best case and the worst case scenario. Building a business was not easy and I could not have done it alone. I have had great mentors who have led the way and gave me a blueprint for success. Even with a blueprint, you have to be mentally tough to take on the ups and downs that all business owners face. I have learned to look at the bigger picture and stay goal oriented so the day to day problems do not get in the way. I want the world to know that everyone has a story that drives them. What drives me is the loss of my close loved ones who did not plan to leave this earth as early as they did. What I do day to day is to help families ease some of the financial pressure families like mine face when losing a loved one.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
When friends come to visit there is always so much to do. I am from Iowa, so there is a bit more to see here in Colorado.
Monday- Take the day to travel to Denver to sight see and visit the botanical gardens. Meow wolf is always on the list of things to do, even just to see the shock and awe on their face.
Tuesday- Make the trip to A-Basin to snowboard or if it is the summer, participate in one of their many summer activities. Most people expect the resorts to be dull in the summer but they are far from it.
Wednesday- Take the short drive to the Indian Hot Springs in Idaho Falls. The indoor spring and private baths are a must to calm the sore muscles from yesterday’s activities.
Thursday- A trip to Estes Park is a must when my friends come to visit. There are so many great hikes in Rocky Mountain National Park with endless wildlife to observe. After the hike, we will have lunch at Penelope’s then walk down the street and get an ice cream cone.
Friday- Heading to Fort Collins on Friday night opens up lots of options. A go to place is the Comedy Fort, one of the best comedy clubs in Colorado that always provides tons of laughs. A trip to the Exchange or Old Town after the show to pick one of the many places to eat. My suggestion is always The Still for steaks but my guest always has the choice.
Saturday- After a long week of traveling and filling up on amazing food, a trip to Horsetooth Reservoir to paddleboard and kayak really helps to relax. The beautiful scenery and abundance of activities give your guests an opportunity to take in the beauty Colorado has to offer.
Sunday- On the last day of the trip we would make a short trip to Top Golf. It is much more than a driving range. They have different games, food and entertainment that gives everyone something to enjoy. After that, we would visit one of the many delicious food trucks here in the Evans area.
Living here in Colorado gives too many options of beautiful hikes good food and top of the line entertainment. All my friends love to come visit!
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I would like to dedicate this shoutout to my godparents, Mike and Suellyn Mangels. They brought me into their home at the age of 9 to give me a second chance. I could not be more grateful for them adopting me and making me feel as if I was always a part of the family. Without this second chance, there would be no possibility of starting my own business or finding the success I have.
