We had the good fortune of connecting with Matt Schalsey and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matt, is there something that you feel is most responsible for your success?
I think for me my brand and success are tied together. With not completely a college degree I found it extremely important ti build relationships with and open mind and learn as much as I can from every interaction.
When it came to my brand within the enablement community, it was incredibly nerve wracking at first. After a few conversations I realized that I knew enough to be impactful to others but not enough that I couldn’t stop learning.
Success is defined differently but to me, making an impact and having others recognize the impact is all the success I need.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I started my career in telesales and for about 10 years I worked with the entire customer journey from SMB to enterprise accounts.
After a long stint and the development of my family, I moved to the marketing world. I got to experience both TV ad sales, corporate campaigns, and event coordination. There it was I realized I lived for the big impact for companies to drive overall results.
After being left behind in an acquisition I applied for a position in Enablement. I had no idea what it was but it was sales related at a cool company and no quota. Sold.
Once I got offered the job, I read a few books and blog posts on the field. From day one to now my vision hasn’t changed to much, I am still tasked with “building, educating, and optimizing company initiatives to drive and retain revenue for an organization”.
Now that might seem a little broad but it’s mainly collaborating with various stakeholders across the company and becoming the Rosetta Stone for the front line teams. We are there to bring the product knowledge to those that need to evangelize our product.
With a field that is still very young in its development there’s still plenty to be learned but overall that’s the most exciting part of the job.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I have to give a shout-out to my mentors within the Enablement community, but even as the Co-Founder of The Enablement Squad – I have to shout out our members.
They are constantly posting thought provoking questions followed by others answering how their experiences have impacted that particular experience.
I’ll also give a shout-out to my former CRO, Thiago Sa Freire, as he’s been the most supportive and influential in my career. He’s been an asset to show me new technique’s in the revenue space, challenge my thought process and support my ideas.
Overall there’s too many to shout out but without my community there’s no self development or success.
