Meet Matthew Basulto | Entrepreneur

We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Basulto and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, how do you think about risk?
Entrepreneurism is all about risk, if you were to look at it as a path then you would literally be building the path as you go. The path might crumble some days or you might take a wrong turn. However, at the end of the path you will have experienced things that you may have never experienced in a traditional path. Taking risks has been apart of my life since I can remember. At a young age, I decided I wanted to be my own boss. This risk is not so easy to take. There will be days where you feel like a bottom dweller and you feel like things are not going your way but there are also times where you feel amazing and on top of the world. You need to find a middle ground and be able to improve every day no matter your emotions. One day I hope to be a household name and I will continue taking risks until then.
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
I am 20 years old. I have been doing entrepreneurial things since I was a pre-teen, selling candy and chips in elementary school. I advanced a little by getting into the sneaker game. I would buy, sell, and trade sneakers at events where I was a vendor and would say that this fueled my entrepreneurial passion that I still have today. My work today is very similar, I buy, sell, and trade vintage clothing, jerseys, sneakers, sports apparel, cards, etc online and at events or flea markets under the name Timeless Garments. It has not been very easy getting here. I am a full-time college student who’s income depends on their own entrepreneurial work. I have bootstrapped my business and inventory up to this point. I learned that sometimes I need to relax with buying more inventory because it leads me to making the wrong decisions and I may lose out on money which I could have used more efficiently somewhere else. I have been making a more conscious effort to be more efficient with the things I buy for a larger profit. I want people to see Timeless Garments and know that it is a place where they can get a piece of clothing at a good price which is very unique and timeless. A timeless garment is a piece of clothing that will age with grace and stay very fashionable. Through every fad that comes and goes, your timeless garment will prevail as a beautiful piece of fashion.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
I am born and raised in NYC. The city that never sleeps. There are so many locations around the city that I may sit here all day and write a whole book on it. One of my favorite things to do is go to Brooklyn for great food and even better thrifting. I love going around the Brooklyn Bridge, especially the Brooklyn Bridge Park to play Basketball. I also love the area around the Barclays Center, which offers so much great food and shopping. They have places like shake shack, famous NYC pizzeria called Artichoke Pizza, and amazing taco truck/stands at almost every intersection.
Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
I want to give a huge shoutout to my sister/mentor Jacqueline Basulto and her fiancé Justin Rashidi. They are huge inspirations to me because they are self made entrepreneurs. Owners of a quickly growing marketing firm, SeedX, which earned them a spot on the Forbes 2020 30 under 30 for marketing. Without them I would not have the ability to take risks and fight for what I want in my life.
