We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Moore and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, what was your thought process behind starting your own business?
I’ve always been a self starter and a natural leader. Working inside of a corporate hierarchy structure was frustrating because I felt stifled and unheard. Surrounded by poor leadership, I felt undervalued. When I started to realize I could channel all of my good ideas and hard work directly into my own success, I decided to purse that with all of my energy. One of my goals has always been to never need to create a resume again. It’s been 10 years and so far, with hard work and a little luck, that goal has been achieved.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
Growing up I always felt creative and artistic, but could never find my medium. I tried to learn to play instruments and sing, but that was an epic failure. I couldn’t draw or paint well. I tried fashion for a bit, but that wasn’t right either. Then one day, I picked up a camera and it just clicked for me (pun intended). I was really good at reverse engineering what I saw others doing, while adding my own creative touch to make it unique.
Developing as a professional filmmaker has been a slower process for me than some. I’ve never shot on big sets with large production budgets, or apprenticed under someone in the industry. For me, it’s been mostly hands on experience and direct to client work. Figuring everything out through trial and error is the slow way to gain new skills. But after 10 years of learning, I’m really happy with where me and my team are as a creative agency.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
If my friend was coming to visit and I wanted to show them a good time, we’d start with a morning hike in Golden. Grab some lunch at one of the many breweries around Golden and then head downtown for a Nuggets game and dinner. I also love Fort Collins and could spend an entire weekend just riding bikes between the breweries, hiking Horsetooth, and eating at all the divy college spots around CSU.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
My journey as an entrepreneur is marked by those who have helped me along the way, encouraged and affirmed my gifts, and supported my business. I have some of the best businesses in Colorado as clients and I’m so thankful for their continued support. But my greatest supporter for the past decade has been my wife, Brianna Moore. As a college student, she diligently saved up for a whole year to buy me my first real camera. I used that camera to shoot my first projects and get my first paying clients. Without her believing in my dreams and taking actions to help me, I would’ve never taken the leap. A few honorable mentions are friends and peers in the industry that have supported me. Friends like Christian DaCosta with DaCosta Films, Hayden Hyde with Ocotillo Films and Tyler Ellison with Iron Oak Creative.
