We had the good fortune of connecting with Matthew Yates and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Matthew, what role has risk played in your life or career?
When it comes to taking that extra step to make your dreams come true it can be tough. But for me I love the feeling of progression and results, and it helps me overcome that fear of failure. As failure is just a lesson learned. Without risk you may not ever succeed. This has certainly pertained to my life, sometimes all your resources aren’t in place but you have to find a way to get it done.
Alright, so let’s move onto what keeps you busy professionally?
I work your typical 9-5 still as I continue to grow my portfolio and customer base. It’s important to me to be able to provide for myself no matter the circumstances. But in my free time it’s typically me working on my photos, or out on a shoot. My goal in life is to do photography for a living.
If you had a friend visiting you, what are some of the local spots you’d want to take them around to?
Well we’d hit the highway and start heading west! Nothing greater than a road trip through the mountains with your buddy. Personally i’d go to Estes, Glenwood, and the Rocky’s. With plenty of stops and local brewpubs and cool hole in the wall shops/restaurants. We may not go far but the people you see and interact with throughout the trip is what makes it that much more fun. There are so many interesting individuals.
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I’d really love to shoutout my parents, sounds cliché, but they have always been my biggest supporter no matter what I do. And without them I would not be the man I am today.
