We had the good fortune of connecting with McCory James and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi McCory, what is the most important factor behind your success?
I think the most important factor to my success has been hiring the right people to represent my company. I always made a point of hiring photographers that love what they do, treat people with respect and kindness and are willing to work hard to provide the best services to our clients. I’ve always said that I hire my team members for who they are and not their photography because I can’t change who they are as a person, but I can work with them to be the best photographer they can be.

What should our readers know about your business?
We have been offer wedding and business event photography services for over 20 years. What has always set us apart is the personalities and skills of our photographers, our unique service offerings and always delivering on our promises. I’m proud of our reputation, especially in the wedding industry. I’m excited about our new business model, where our clients can book our services online and customize everything to their exact needs. I think it will be more client friendly and provide work for more photographers.

Building a business is never easy. It takes many years of hard work and being able to manage it through the highs and lows that will inevitably come. I’ve been able to overcome the challenges because I know that God has a plan for my life and my business and whether it succeeds or fails is ultimately not up to me. All I can do is to treat people well, try to make the best decisions possible and work hard every day.

I’ve learned that the people around you should always come before you. You can’t be successful without having other people’s support. That you can build a successful business and still have a good work/life balance that puts your family and friends first. That whether your are successful or not many times comes down to your level of commitment and how hard you are willing to work to make it happen.

For the brand, I would want people to know that we are always doing our best to make sure we are providing the best photography services possible.

For me personally, I would want people to know that it has been an amazing blessing to be a photographer for the last 25 years and I couldn’t have done it without their support.

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
I would definitely take them to a concert at Red Rocks. Launch Pad Brewing or Locavore Beer Works for craft beer. Cherry Cricket for a burger (I especially like the Littleton location). Linger for great food and a unique dining experience. A Colorado Rapids game on a warm summer night. The memorable experience of Casa Bonita. Lastly, golfing at Arrowhead Golf Course to enjoy a fun course around the red rocks.

Shoutout is all about shouting out others who you feel deserve additional recognition and exposure. Who would you like to shoutout?
My wife, Kelly James. I wouldn’t have even been able to even take the risk of starting my dream career of being a professional photographer without her support. She has been by my side through all the highs and lows of being a small business owner and making a career out of something I love.

If I can give two shoutouts, the other would be to all the photographers that have represented my company over the years. They have put their heart and soul into their work and clients to provide the best photography services possible and helped us create a reputation in the industry that we can be very proud of. We wouldn’t have had the success we’ve had over the last 20 years without them.
