We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Donahue and we’ve shared our conversation below.

Hi Meg, we’d love to hear more about how you thought about starting your own business?
We thought if people knew about the benefits of eating more plants, they would just change their diet, but we were wrong. And I don’t blame them – people are busy! And researching where to start with plant-based eating is overwhelming. That’s why we created convenient, high-quality plant-based meals that taste great, provide nutrients, and are easy to heat and eat. We believe that making change easier is fundamental.

Can you give our readers an introduction to your business? Maybe you can share a bit about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
MamaSezz was born out of necessity, really. My mom was sick with congestive heart failure and I wasn’t ready to give up on her. One night, I stumbled across the book “Prevent and Reverse Heart Disease” by Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn. His recommendation of a whole food plant-based diet was completely foreign to me, but with no other medical options, we decided to give it a try. Over the next few months of eating this way, my mother’s health drastically improved – her heart function shot up and so did her energy. The same doctors who told us to simply make her comfortable couldn’t believe her improvement.

A fire was lit. We’d seen the incredible benefits of a plant-based diet firsthand, but we also knew it took a lot of work to overhaul your lifestyle. We realized that there was a real need for convenient, healthy plant-based meals in the market. And so, Mamasezz was born, with a mission to make healthy eating easy and delicious.

The most important lesson my career and business have taught me is the power of perseverance and the willingness to adapt. I’ve learned that if you believe in what you’re doing and are willing to keep pushing forward even in the face of adversity, you can achieve great things…but you’ve got to be flexible!

Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
When my best friend visits we have a cherished routine.

We love to hit up local bookstores, get a delicious cup of coffee and lunch out at a friend’s restaurant, play tennis on the red clay at our sweet tennis club, invite other friends over for a cookout and dinner on the deck, and talk and laugh and laugh and listen and ask good questions and learn and love.

Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
Jane Esselstyn is an incredible driving force in the plant-based realm, serving as a tremendous inspiration not only to me but also to the entire team at MamaSezz. Her unwavering dedication to creating a plant-based lifestyle that is not only achievable but enjoyable and community-oriented is truly inspiring.
