We had the good fortune of connecting with Meg Pacella and Amanda Shefsick we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi ladies, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
We were previously school teachers during very trying times. Yoga was our escape and release. We saw a need in our town and decided to start the business together. We are yin and yang personalities so we bring very different ideas and concepts to the studio. It is a very good balance and allows us to make the environment very diverse. Our original idea was to purchase a yoga studio that was closing but when that fell thru we were advised to look at starting something on our own. Both never had owning a business we took a big leap of faith but had a lot of people backing us and supporting us in the venture.
Alright, so for those in our community who might not be familiar with your business, can you tell us more?
Peace Out Yoga is a yoga studio in Castle Rock, CO that offers a variety of yoga classes, including Vinyasa, Hatha, Yin, Sculpt/FIIT, Restorative, Gentle, Prenatal and kids yoga. The studio is located in the heart of downtown Castle Rock and is known for its welcoming and inclusive community. The studio offers classes for all levels, from beginners to advanced practitioners. The classes are designed to help students find inner peace, reduce stress, and improve their overall health and well-being. In addition to yoga classes, Peace Out Yoga offers workshops, retreats, and teacher training programs. The studio is committed to making yoga accessible to everyone, regardless of their age, fitness level, or experience.
The studio is known for its experienced and knowledgeable instructors who are passionate about sharing the benefits of yoga with their students. Our instructors go above and beyond to make this studio a special place to practice. The studio also offers affordable pricing options and frequently hosts community events and classes.
Overall, Peace Out Yoga is a great place to practice yoga, connect with like-minded individuals, and find inner peace and balance in a busy world.
We think our community is what sets us apart from other establishments. We try and go above and beyond to connect to our members through events, out of the studio gatherings and challenges that help bring people together. In order to build our business we had to promote before we even opened our doors. We don’t have a traditional store front so to get people in the door we have to spread the word around the community and our members help us do this. We also continue to promote as much as we can at community events around Castle Rock.
As with any fitness studio we always face the challenge of the “slow” season. Members will pause or cancel their memberships and this is always a scary time for us as no matter the month the bills still need to be paid. I think we overcome these times by continuing to stay positive but we always continue to get the word out about the studio. We also run in studio challenges and workshops to keep people motivated and engaged in what we have to offer.
Another challenge which is unfortunate is that we are women business owners. Our journey to create this space has not been an easy one and we have have experienced the inequalities of trying to start a small business being women. We overcome this challenge daily by not giving up, speaking up and living our truth.
I think if we could tell the world anything about Peace Out Yoga and our journey is to seek out your dreams. They are never too big. Your friends and family will support you and you can make big things happen. We are also so inspired by our members and our community. Every effort we put forth and all the choices we make moving forward are for this family. We are so grateful to this PEACE OUT YOGA family.
Many lessons were learned along the way. Many tears were had. Blood, sweat and tears!!!! But it’s all worth it in the end.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
We would take them to a yoga class at Peace Out Yoga. :0) Then, we would head to Dos Santos for some yummy tacos and margaritas. We would walk down Wilcox and take a stroll around Festival Park. Hopefully a festival or live show might be happening. For a little shopping we would hit up The Barn and The Emporium. Castle Rock is so wonderful and walkable. Lots to do and see. After a little shopping we would take a little hike to the top of the Rock and show them the aerial view of the city. For a little more fitness we may even visit the Phillip S. Miller Complex and partake in the incline or EPIC zipline. People in Castle Rock will greet you with love. We love showing people a good time in Castle Rock.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
We would like to shoutout Greg with Greg Homer Law. He encouraged us to break out on our own and start our own studio when things were not working out with the previous studio. He has also been along for the ride and mentored us through the ups and downs of owning your own business. He has provided us with priceless support and efforts to help us make important business decisions.
We would also like to shoutout our friends and family who believed in our vision and spent many late nights helping us prepare and get ready for our grand opening. Without these key people we would not be here today. They continue to support the studio through volunteer efforts, engagement, support and love.
Our husbands… they believed in our dream and continue to support us everyday! We are so grateful to have our community and loved ones on this journey with us. Without these key people this wouldn’t be possible.
