We had the good fortune of connecting with Megan Douwes and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Megan, what do you attribute your success to?
The most important factor, behind my brand and success is enjoyment- passion. I enjoy photography so much that sometimes I forget it’s my profession. When we lose enjoyment or passion in our work, that’s when we lose our efforts. And I will never have to worry about that happening with the photography. Sure, some days are a little trying, but majority of them I’m just like “wow I cant believe this is my job”
Let’s talk shop? Tell us more about your career, what can you share with our community?
My style of photography is very candid. And I’ve learned that’s not everyones taste/style – which is all part of the learning process. There’s a lot to photography, especially behind the scenes that some might not realize, and to me that’s the hardest learning experience. Whether it be editing hundreds of images or your client doesn’t respond about their gallery as you would hope, there is so much emotion in photography. I want people to know about my brand is that I want everyone to be themselves. It’s important to me that clients get to act themselves during sessions and that I too will act myself to make taking pictures more fun to do than a daunting task.
Any places to eat or things to do that you can share with our readers? If they have a friend visiting town, what are some spots they could take them to?
I would definitely take them to some sort of sporting event. Then walk around Union Station and dairy block and maybe check out Avanti.
Who else deserves some credit and recognition?
My dad deserves the biggest shoutout. Besides all his support and encouragement, he’s the reason I got into photography. He handed me his camera when I was younger, showed me how to take photos and told me to go have fun with it. And it stuck with me ever since. So, without my dad, I wouldn’t be the photographer I am today.
